So i installed ubuntu yesterday and today i decided to try out Openbox. I installed it, logged out, changed the drop down list to Openbox then got... nothing.
when i reboot i still get nothing. I can get into recovery mode options fine and access the grub boot-loader fine too
What i want to know is how can I log into a normal Gnome session?

Define "nothing". Openbox draws no panels, icons, or widgets on the screen, and depending on what your previous DE was, you may not even have a wallpaper set. I have no idea how Ubuntu sets it up by default, so it's possible you don't even have a menu defined, if that's the case, and you've got it set up to auto-login then you'll need to boot into a lower run-level and define a simple menu to get you back to gdm (login screen).

Before doing any of that though, check for a menu by right-clicking anywhere on the screen.
