Good news, everyone! Ubisoft says it's "constantly working to evolve and improve" its new "online services platform" for gamers. Awesome! What's this "online services platform"? Why, it's Orwellian b.s. for "DRM."

In other words, despite the utter fiasco its PC copy-protection scheme has been so far, that sucker is here to stay, so get used to playing their games with an always-on Internet connection. Which, even if you have it, still depends on their DRM servers - oops, online services platform - being up and running, as it actually was not during the rollout of Assassin's Creed II.

"Most forthcoming Ubisoft PC titles will use our online services platform," a spokesperson told Eurogamer. "As with any online technology, we are constantly working to evolve and improve it."

Awright! Bitchin'! PC gamers, you can probably look forward to some free DLC for Splinter Cell Conviction, Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands and Ghost Recon Future Soldier when pirates inevitably attack the DRM servers during those releases, too.

I know, I know.

Ubisoft should just gtfo.

This just in, Ubisoft continues to fuck the Nintendo DS in the ass to fund their efforts to fuck their consumers in the ass, whilst pirates laugh at both of them!

Seriously Ubisoft, knock it the fuck off, you're making a lot of enemies quickly.

Fixed.

Ubisoft are just fucking idiots. Will you even be able to play your copy of Assassin's Creed II on the computer in 10 years? Just wondering. Ubisoft would probably discontinue their servers for that or whatever. Or am I talking out of my ass.

The problem here is that Ubisoft doesn't get it. Anti-piracy usually isn't for the long run, to make a game invulnerable to being pirated. It's about keeping the game protected long enough that people throw their hands in the air and just end up buying the game before a crack is made. With DRM, the thing is that people don't even want to buy the game if it has such shitty issues. When you can't play a game you legally bought through no fault of your own, there's something seriously wrong.

Games have even gotten lower scores because of this DRM crap. Assassin's Creed II on the PC got worse reviews than its PS3/Xbox 360 brothers purely because of DRM.

Ugh, they're morons.

Ubisoft's good to crap game ratio is 1:1000

With the 1000 being all shovelware.

Now if they can put the always online protection on their Wii games or require Wi-Fi on their shovelware, so we won't play their crap.

It's funny, the people who actually buy Ubisoft PC games can't play because of DRM issues, yet the pirates can play fine with the cracks on their game.

How about you give up Ubisoft? Patch all the games so that they don't need the constant online servers and discontinue the DRM program for all PC releases. You actually make good games sometimes and you do not want this haunting you.

They'll drop it eventually. Same shit happened with Starforce, no one liked that protection either, Ubisoft said they were keeping it, eventually they gave in and got rid of it.
