Okay, so I'm a little confused. I have everything in the right place on my flashdrive and nothing is showing up on the menu. Is there a setting or something you have to toggle? It refreshes when I take out and put it back in in the back USB port. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, I am using a FAT32 formatted flashdrive with XCI's on the root.

how does the update function work? does it overwrite the boot file right away or put it in a temp folder and programmed to overwrite on reboot?

Downloads it to a temp folder, then verifies it, then overwrites the previous boot file. Of course you'd need to reboot to see any actual changes.

this is quite possibly a stupid question, installing NSP on External HDD
is it possible to install an NSP then transfer the Nintendo directory to the HDD and use a symlink in place on the MicroSD to point the files on the HDD

Team Xecuter need to work in a solution to install NSP ignoring the required firmware version like Tinfoil does.
I think some XCI games also ask for specific firm to run (like Lego Dc villans)

I've tried reformatting it, formatting to fat32, changing it to GPT type, nothing works now, it just errors on HDD speed up

Just out of interest - has anyone tried this with a usb dvd/blueray drive yet? I would imagine it would work but I'm just speculating.

optical discs don't use fat or exfat file format so little chance it'll be supported by switch since it doesn't have optical disc support

    Out of curiosity

If I convert a few nsp games to xci

    Nba2k19 for example:

The game itself is less than 10gb but the update is close to 30gb. When I install the update where does the update get stored ? On hard drive where the game .xci is ? Or on my SD card installed in the switch?

Nope for the moment only xci and you can put the nsp there for install them on the internal switch storage or micro sd.
You can also use one of the available tools to convert nsp games to xci

Can someone assist an uneducated person here...

    1) What is max size supported for hard drive? - or what is a good drive you pro's recommend?
    2) How would we launch?
----> Meaning would we still use the jig & dongle and hold in the power + vol up boot into CFW then dock the switch and plug in the USB hard drive?

    1) seems to be 2TB with MBR Partion, this would also match with the Maximum what Nintendo says is the switch compatible.
    2) Its currently only possible with SX OS 2.2 Beta and yes, you would load your Firmware as usual and if you have an HDD / Flash Drive or something connected, SX OS would regconize it.

I've tried with an 8gb pendrive this morning. Plugged and unplugged it while the switch was on dock and recognized the games on it. It's a really nice improvment on the sx os functionality! Totally worth it, and I was one of those who would wait for the pirates be pirated.
