Hey. I'm gonna show you how to install a custom font on a Nintendo Switch.

This is the Super Mario Sunshine font showing on Home Menu and some other games that use system font.

Warning: Please make a NAND backup before proceeding. You don't wanna end up bricking it.

Since it's a SystemData archive title, Atmosphere's LayeredFS won't work with replacing files, we are gonna install NCA to NAND. Same for 3DS, System Font is a Shared Data Archive title and therefore files cannot be replaced with Luma3DS' LayeredFS, so it requires installing CIA to NAND.

    What you need

    BFTTFutil
    Goldleaf
HacPack (CLI, not the GUI one)
    HacDiskMount & memloader
    HacGUI

Creating BFTTF - Binary Café TrueType

First of all, we are going to convert TTF to BFTTF.

Put both BFTTFutil.exe and the .ttf in the same folder.

Open up PowerShell or Command Prompt and type this command
    Code:
    BFTTFutil.exe -enc_nx Delfino.ttf Delfino.bfttf
    [IMG]

    You'll get the BFTTF
    [IMG]

Take the BFTTF with you, create RomFS folder on HacPack folder and place the BFTTF there. Rename the BFTTF to "nintendo_udsg-r_std_003.bfttf"

Open up PowerShell or Command Prompt
Make sure you have prod.keys - see Lockpick
    Code:
hacpack.exe -k keys.dat --plaintext -o "OutputNCA" --type nca --ncatype data --titleid 0100000000000811 --romfsdir "RomFS"

You should get the NCA file. Rename it to anything you want.

    HacGUI - dumping NCA

We are gonna find out the filename for the nca and dump NCA for backup purpose.

For 6.2.0, it should be 3cc0d22757706ac52107f776e09d82ec.nca

    Known nca filenames:
    6.2.0: 3cc0d22757706ac52107f776e09d82ec.nca
    6.0.0 - 6.1.0: 9d531e818c708b7f24bed6114a80ec59.nca
    5.1.0: 6c1cb9bf75efcd41294ac1d63d2db921.nca
    5.0.0 - 5.0.2: b0d7c15e25e36d9a22aa7efa11206a75.nca
    4.0.1 - 4.1.0: f1e25d8f273bdc4a1a2072ce0075a5cc.nca
    3.0.0 - 3.0.2: 26173e338522874796c0e50653a10b50.nca
    2.0.0 - 2.3.0: 54ca96cfe598753d37003ef5ff71fc2c.nca
    1.0.0: dc784aebce397fdb54089a52f011bbc1.nca

Skip this if you know the filename for your fw and you have a backup of your nca file.

    Continue

    Replacing NCA file

Now, copy your custom font NCA to the mSD card and rename as the original nca extracted from HacGUI.

Boot your Switch with CFW, launch Goldleaf.

Browse SD card, copy the custom font nca
    [IMG]

Browse system NAND - NAND SYSTEM:/Contents/registered
    [IMG]

    Paste it.

    Reboot in CFW.

If you get past the Nintendo Switch splashscreen, congratulations! :D

    Notes

    CFW
You have to be on CFW with signature patches, otherwise it hangs on the Nintendo Switch splashscreen.

    System update
If the new system update is pushed out, DO NOT update it! It may fuck up the system, we haven't confirmed it. Just revert the font back to normal before updating.

    Emunand (SX OS)
If you're using emuNAND on your Switch, see this instruction for SX OS users: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-installing-a-custom-system-font-with-sx-os-emunand.528011/

    Uninstalling

If you feel like reverting the font back to normal,

Copy the original nca to mSD card

    Go back to Goldleaf

Browse SD card, copy the original font nca, Browse system NAND - NAND SYSTEM:/Contents/registered

    Reboot.

Then you can normally boot on OFW.

    Known issues

    None
    Solved

    Manual uninstall

    Warning: Spoilers inside!

    Happy font hacking!

Very, very nice and great tutorial!
The console is 200% cuter with Super Mario Sunshine font haha

Hope no one bricks their system because of a font hack, though ^^'

I’m guessing this requires sigpatches? If so you should probably mention it in the post :P

Yes, that's why it's needed to boot CFW. Otherwise it hangs on Nintendo Switch splashscreen lol.

Yea, regular Atmosphere doesn’t come with sigpatches, because they’re mostly used for piracy, and ReSwitched is against piracy
You can add sigpatches to Atmosphere pretty easily though :P

This is very nice, actually. Nervous to try, but awesome. Are there other things we could possibly change with this?

Replacing system file is the only way. LayeredFS won't work with these system titles, even I tried fsmitm.flag and boot2.flag .

Always keep in mind that writing to NAND is dangerous, and even morer with NCAs!
