I haven't played my xbox 360 in a long time and am looking to hack it.
Apparently it's a Jasper model looking at where the power cable goes and it says it's running dashboard version 2.0.14719.0.
I'd prefer to not open it up but I can solder if needed.

A little confused on which option to go for but I believe JTAGging it would be best as I have an external HDD and have never used XBL.

Could someone link me a guide to get started? Please ;D

If you're looking at RGHing (same as JTAGging) then you'll have to crack it open and solder in wires and a chip.

However, if your only goal is playing games then I'd suggest an Xkey (if you insist on using an external drive)
Using an external drive on a JTAG is kinda pointless since SATA 2 is faster then USB.
Especially since you can upgrade your internal HDD to max 2TB

Anyway, if you want to RGH it, you'll have to get a NAND-X or Jrunner programmer and J-runner.
A good guide for RGHing can be found here (substitute everything with Jrunner)

Otherwise, look at me sticky to install an Xkey ;]

I have a 500gb external HD and was looking to get away cheap on that ;)
If I use the internal drive is it 2.5 or 3.5?

Which would you say is cheaper? lol

2.5 inch for internal.

Personally, it looks neater to have everything internal.
Not only that but it also loads faster then external (I don't get it what people have with using externals when you have the option to have everything internal...)
Besides, you have the additional benefits of FSD not having to scan lots and potentially not detecting stuff if you plug in your external to late.

I like external for I can use the HD for other things and simplicity. But if it means less i can mess up then I'll go for the internal.
I'll try swapping the internal drive. Now that's... XKey?

Better go with internal (personally)

Internal drive should be any sized 2.5inch HDD.
Just plug it in (after you fully hacked it) and format it with the 360.
Then follow this tutorial to set everything up.

Yep.

If you're going to solder it yourself, then I suggest RGH.
If you let someone solder it for you, get a R-JTAG chip (their way faster then RGH chips but harder to install)

Then install FSD to access your games/homebrew etc ;]
