This is my last post on this thread before I add it to the ignore list.

I don’t like Trump. Not only I disagree with his policies and him as a person, but it would be bad for Europe if he does get elected. That being said, the fact that many people (whom have been calling their opposite side as “fascist”, ironically enough) are celebrating an assassination attempt tells you exactly how fucked American politics are. No doubt in my mind that these people would cheer even more when/if Trump actually gets killed.

My suggestion to all of you is to take a chill pill and re-read anything before you post it. Not because it’s against the rules, but because it’s morally disgusting. Badger out.

Though I agree with you, there's the important caveat of consequence.

This guy has been acting unlawful for years, and about the only consequence he got was 'not getting re-elected'. He insults, threatens violence and has committed all sorts of crimes. But media and republicans just provide ample excuses, cover for him or demands delays. In a normal country, he would've been arrested on the evening of January 6. Here, it took well over a year before the judge (Cannon) decided that prosecutor Smith wasn't qualified. He treated his Carroll conviction as a permit to defame her even more. His shady business practices were hit with a 400 million fine, which was then halved and then postponed. Same with the stormy Daniel's case: he's convicted for misusing election funds, but the sentence is delayed until after the election. In summary: if you can postpone the law until after you die, you're effectively above it.

And it's getting hard to raise a child with decent values and kindness when you see just about all the worst characteristics of a man just going free and play golf all day.

So no... I don't celebrate. But damn it... It would've been a consequence well deserved.
(there's also the old riddle: if you could go back in time, would you kill Hitler? There are more than a few parallels here, and it doesn't require a time machine)

Ironically you are contributing to more of this divisive nonsense with your specious reasoning.

The fact is that yes, this shooter has heterodox political views, and has gone from voting and donating to Democrats, to Republicans and back again. The most important aspect of this story however is that a clearly unhinged, mentally ill person was radicalized through politics (and managed to very easily obtain an AK47) and looked to cause chaos because he is disturbed. The increased polarisation, blame game nonsense only makes things like this more likely to happen, and while I am glad Trump wasn't killed, this man is the chief architect of a lot of this division; it's literally his whole brand. A lot of right-wingers respond to something like this, basically to say that any criticism of Trump is dangerous or will lead to more violence. In fact, when a man so clearly has contempt for democracy, has openly admired dictators and authoritarians on multiple occasions and seems more comfortable with them than with allies, it is actually incumbent on Democrats to illustrate that gross incompetence and disgusting disregard for liberal ideals. It isn't encouraging violence to say Trump is a wannabe dictator, it is just accepting observable reality. And for the record, I was a Trump fan from 2016-2022.
