Why is an Insert Disc screen called the Red Screen of Death?

It failed to boot game because it's either broken or scratched or unreadable.

If you just turn it on with no disc, it goes to the BIOS/setup screen.
This only happens when it doesn't recognize the inserted disc as a PS1/PS2/DVD/CD disc.
It's hard to explain why it was scary, but it was.

I sort of experienced the same thing today. I was one race late for a weekly MK8 tournament, inserted the disc, but my Wii U didn't recognise it. I was like "u wot", but reinserting it worked.

Red makes your heart pump faster, thus making you feel that you need to rush and add that spooky ambient sound to this = shit bricks at night, or run out of your run and start screaming.
It's basically something that goes "Oh SHIT RUNRUNRUNRUN" in our brain, i don't really know how to explain it.

Mine just froze mid-race, making loud beeping noise.
That was the moment i uninstalled it. My heart can't take this anymore :hateit:

Yeah. I was always afraid of this screen; more often than not, it meant my disc was so scratched up that I couldn't play it.

That, or it would just show up randomly and scare the ever-living shit out of me.

Story of my life (and everyone I know's :P)

The problem is when it starts happening more and more often, until it won't read any disc you have no matter what it is

I don't know why, but everything was scarier at those times, I guess the design and sound aesthetic of things
