I'm sure this has been asked before (though searching yielded no results), but I'm wondering if it's possible to transfer Wiiware from one console to another? I bought a bunch of WiiWare and VCs on the family's Wii a while back, and I've since got my own personal console. I sort of want to transfer the ones I purchased over to my Wii now instead of buying them all over again. This wouldn't be a problem if Nintendo allowed transfers between consoles linked to the same Club Nintendo account, but nope, we have to do this the hard way.

What I was thinking was something like extracting the WADS from the family Wii somehow and install them to the new one. I'd imagine that wouldn't be terribly hard for you hacker folk. [IMG]

    Any ideas?

Or you could just download them all,I don't see why you need extracting. That will just make things more harder.

I mostly want to avoid questionable downloading.

Well, I'm guessing the family Wii has the HBC on it, yes?

You could do a nand dump with bootmii, and use something like showmiiwads to extract the files from the nand dump and then pack them to wads to install with a wad manager on your wii.

Though I'm sure there's a newer app than showmiiwads someone will point out.

I don't have HBC on their Wii. It isn't modded. They're a bit picky about it and don't want me touching it to mod it. I can of course when no one's around and it would be VERY easy to hide, but when no one's around, I tend to be at work, so...

If there is a program to say... extract the WADs from the SD card it self (most of them are saved to the SD card), that would be useful, as I would avoid modding their Wii all together.

Unfortunately I don't think there is. If my memory serves me correctly then channels stored to the SD card are encrypted with the per console key, so you'd still need to hack the Wii to get that.

That's unfortunate. I'll go ahead and mod the Wii when people start going to bed in this house. I hate being secretive about it, but I sort of have to if I want to grab these.

Perhaps someone could write a program that uses the key from the Wii to decrypt those files? Of course, if you can get that key, you can just backup the NAND anyway and use the other program. Just wishful thinking on my part.

Ugh, it's going to take multiple NAND dumps. Not to say I didn't expect it, but I was kind of hoping I would be able to fit them all in a single dump. Oh well.

Someone probably could. But it would take more work to do something that is achieved faster in another way.

Just install bootmii, use it to make a nand backup on your SD card and remove bootmii from the family wii. Then use showmiiwads to extract the wiiware into .wad files. Finally, use a wad manager to install those on your own wii*.

The easier way is just to download those .wad files from a shady site. The end result is still the same.

*disclaimer: it shouldn't happen, but when installing wads, it's always a good idea to have priiloader installed. That way, you're protected from bannerbricks (not that they would happen if you use your own purchased wads, but it's better to be sure).

Again, I'm not going to download wads, end of story.

In any case, I managed to get all the games of mine in a single NAND backup. Slow process, but I'm making progress.

Sorry...I wasn't suggesting you to do that. But threads are usually read by many people, so it's better to mention it for them. [IMG]

Anyway: so you've got the nand...that's good (it means you won't have to bother with the family wii anymore). Now all you need to do is figure out how to use showmiiwads to read the channels on them and extract the ones you want into wads.

It's even possible to extract savegames from them, though I'm not sure how to get them on your actual wii (you'll have to check savegame manager gx for instructions on that). But keep that for after you get those wiiware installed and running. [IMG]

Yeah, I've made the WADs. Going to be backing up my Wii just in case I screwed up somehow with them. Getting the save files isn't crucial, but thanks for letting me know that I can do that.

Ok, the WADs aren't even installing. Could someone possibly tell me how to make them in the first place with Showmiiwads, in case I did something wrong?

to copy wii ware games from one wii to another:

    1. extract the wads with bluedump from your wii
    2. use bannerbomb (if the family wii has system menu 4.2 or lower) or any of the game exploits (smash stack, eri hackawai, etc.) to load the ios236 installer
    3. use bannerbomb / the game exploit of your choice again and load a wad manager
    4. use ios 236 to install the wii ware games on the family wii

now go for the save files:

    1. extract the savegames with savegame manager gx
    2. Play the wii ware games on the family wii at least once, since there needs to be a save file created
    3. delete the save files of the wii ware games again
    4. use bannerbomb / whatever game exploit to load savegame manager gx on the family wii and move the savegames to the wii

    hope I could help

You have to sign them first in order to make them installable. Download this and move your extracted wads to the _wwpacker-JustSign.bat. Then you can install them with a wad manager.
