Keep all of your games on the old SD card, and install emuNAND to the new SD card. Then, copy the "Nintendo 3DS" folder (and any .sav files if there are any) from the old card to the new card. This should leave your games unaffected.

that wont bring the hidden emunand partition over though. He needs to create a new emunand on the old card, then use "emunand tool" to remove and backup the old emunand, and insert it into the new sd card.

There isn't a need to copy the entire emuNAND partition over. As long as he isn't changing to a different 3DS, the newly created partition will work with all the keys generated for the .cia installed games.

Done it :)

- Take SD out of 3DS and copy everything to PC
- Be sure to make a new folder for that
- Make a NAND dump of the Emunand with "EmuNANDTool" (Extract emuNAND)
- Rename EmuNAND.bin to NAND.bin
- Place "Launcher.dat" on new SD
- Place NEW SD into your 3DS and boot into Gateway menu
- Format EMUNAND
- Turn off 3DS
- Place SD in cartreader and into your PC
- Start "EmuNANDTool" again and choose Inject NAND to emuNAND
- Copy everything back to your new SD

You are now ready, insert the new SD into your 3DS and boot inbto Gateway, everything is back as it was before

this will be helpful to do when I transfer everything to my N3DS LL when the gateway support comes out for it! Thanks!

You can't use an emuNAND formatted from one 3DS on another 3DS. Unfortunately, transferring your games will be a bit more involved than that. I'm currently weighing my options right now while I wait for the update...

Djoen guide is the right way to do it.
Some users prefer using Win32DiskImager to backup/restore the full image of the SD card, then use a partition manager to extend the new FAT32 size.
But I think using EmuNANDTool, and let the console format the SD is easier.

EmuNANDTool method can be used to go from big->small SDcard too.

"Rename EmuNAND.bin to NAND.bin" step is not required.
But doesn't have any effect if you follow it.

In regards to that, wouldn't there be a problem with the fact that Gateway 3DS doesn't support EmuNAND above 9.5? I mean, it seems like the N3DS (what a confusing name) has firmware that's a bit different so it's not like you can just convert it like you can moving from one 3DS to another, right? And if the saves don't work outside of EmuNAND wouldn't it be impossible to take them with you and play online? And what if you want to update to exactly 9.5? It's not like Nintendo is going to give you anything other than the most recent update, right?

Also, in regards to copying the EmuNAND, isn't there a problem with this rule:

"It is not possible to link the same Nintendo Network account to multiple Wii U or multiple Nintendo 3DS family systems at the same time."

So what would happen if someone converted to another 3DS, new or otherwise, but also kept the old EmuNAND working on the old 3DS? (hopefully this isn't too off topic)

For anyone trying to do this I just want to give a heads up that if you have CFW installed the emunand tool will not work. it gives an error saying 'unknown file size emunand, contact xxxx' and then it dumps a 1kb file. In my case the only way to do this was backing up the partition like ChrisX930 said... simply:

- Backup your SD Card with Win32DiskImager
- Restore your Backup with Win32DiskImager to the new SD Card
- Use EaseUS Partition Master to resize the FAT32 Partition (if the new SD Card is bigger then the old one)
- You have a exact copy of the old SD Card with more space
- Profit

Partition size of a 32gb sd card is 29720.0 (I went from 16gb to 32gb)

Good luck!

One question, i put the SD on the 3DS, and go direct to format emunand? I dont need go on Backup emunand and then go to format emunand?
And what its better, use the Emunand tool or Win32disk imager and Easeus?

This is exactly the same steps I took when I upgraded my SD card. Aside from renaming the EmuNAND.bin (I actually rename mine to include the date, such as emunand_20150504.bin, so I know how long it's been since that backup was made).

One question, i put the SD on the 3DS, and go direct to format emunand? I dont need go on Backup emunand and then go to format emunand?

The "Backup NAND" option in the Gateway menu backs up the sysNand, not emuNand, so it's not what you need in this case. The main reason to select "Format EMUNAND" is to set up the partitions, we don't actually care about the contents of that partition because we're going to overwrite it as soon as it's made. I personally prefer this method, because it doesn't rely on any commercial software or manually altering partitions.

As a reminder since some people mentioned how an emuNand is tied to the system it was made on, this question is about keeping the same 3DS system, and using a bigger SD card with it. For example, replacing the 4GB card that comes with the system with a 32GB card to have more room for installed CIAs and such. It's not about transferring anything from one system to another system. That's why restoring the backup from the old card to the new card works.

I had to bookmark this page for when I plan on going from 32 GB to 512 GB (Don't ask, I have like 100 3DS games on cart, trying to go digital is harder than it seems.)
