Total_Noob, the dev who discovered the first kernel exploit on the PSP Go as well as providing Vita users with his TN-V "CEF" for PSP mode, has decided to leave the PSP/Vita hacking scene.

Definitely a shame, Total_Noob's TN-V stuff was absolutely excellent for Vita users without a PSP. In the source below you can find his "List of Achievements" for his TN-V CEF.

One more nail in VITA's coffin.
As bad this news is, I hope him well for what's next.

This was the news that truly killed the Vita. Not the price. Not the memory cards. This.

This is a GOOD thing, people. Maybe now folks will stop re-hacking the vPSP, and go for the bigger picture here. :)

Uhh, that's hardly the case. The reason for no Vita exploits/substantial progress isn't because everyone was just focusing on PSP mode, it's because Sony didn't fuck up their security like they did with the PSP. Yifan Lu had found a userland exploit back in 2012, but nothing ever came of it then because of a lack of any open SDK (something we still lack) and (I assume) Sony has managed to find and patch it ages ago. There has been some progress regarding Vita hardware stuff, like the NAND being dumped and Vita game cards being dumped, but those aren't going to lead to any exploits any time soon.

That and lack of developer interest, since a lot of homebrew devs have just moved on to Android/iOS.

DSi was cracked... i even have one that is homebrew capable without a flashcart... its just the level of interest is low.

I wish more came out of it... its just the "talent" didnt care.

This is a good bye that's a lot better than the "OMFGZ Yous are so stupid I hatez you I quitz" things that so often appear in the "scenes".

What happened? Life happened. Noting more, nothing less. A clean exit.

Oh well. Life comes before everybody that wants to pirate. It isn't as if the Vita hacking scene will die. I'm sure there will either be somebody that will continue on along the same type of work, and even more likely is that there are people working on different methods to hack the Vita itself and not just PSP mode. Regardless, one can nab a PSP for pretty cheap these days, so this isn't a huge deal for those just looking for hacks.

I didn't want to say it but it's more like closing the lid of the coffin.
I wanted to fool myself into believing there's still some hope left

He'll be back, I remember a while back saying that he was leaving forever and then released a new CFW a few months after, same thing with coldbird I'm pretty sure.

when they said "Life caught up to him" may mean "Sony caught up to him" after the Geohotz mess devs were scared to even code maybe Sony is starting to get the big fish in the scene and covering their tracks (through gag orders and stuff like that) (only my speculation)

I bet the time he invested on reverse engineering took much of his life's time. But I suppose we could still see him hanging around here. (it's like 9 hours to me, daily)

He will be missed. Hopefully this won't be the death of the Vita scene.

I can understand moving on to Android or iOS, you can focus on making your software good instead of patching it and repatching it every time Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft fix the exploit.

Recently jumped to Android myself (as a user lol) and I have to say, the machine I picked up was cheap, didn't require hacking, and seems more powerful than it should be for the price. (JXD S7800b for under 140 bucks.) With that combination it's tough to see homebrew people sticking around trying to hack consoles when something compelling is hanging so low.

If you really believed that access to a hacked PSP mode was somehow the bridge to success for the Vita, or that the average consumer is turned off by the marginally more expensive system, or the price of memory cards, then you clearly have absolutely no understanding as to why the Vita is so far behind the 3DS in sales.

I wouldn't go that far. Total_Noob isn't the only one that found exploits for the Vita. TN-V is usable with almost every exploit so far, and future exploits are sure to work with TN-V!
