Popular MOBA game League of Legends has certainly left a legacy on competitive gaming. However, this legacy may be a bit darker today, as the top two League of Legends teams have been disqualified from the Major League Gaming tournament.

The two teams, Curse NA and Team Dignitas, were disqualified for fixing the game with one team throwing it. The two teams would then split the prize money 50-50. However, this dastardly duo was found out and instead will receive no prizes of any sort. A statement from MLG reads:

"MLG regrets to announce that we will not be awarding 1st or 2nd Place finishes for the Summer Championship League of Legends Event. We have determined that there was collusion between the two final teams, Curse NA and Team Dignitas. This is in clear violation of both the letter and spirit of MLG's Official Pro Circuit Conduct Rules: 'competitors may not intentionally Forfeit a Game or conspire to manipulate Rankings or Brackets.

As such, both teams have been disqualified, and no placements or prize money will be awarded."

This would be one of the few recorded cases of game fixing in competitive gaming. However, cheating in competitive games is as old as time itself, and to see it creep over to the video game scene is surely expected.

Interesting... but how did they discover the two teams were in collusion? Did someone from one of the teams come forward?

That's what I'd like to know.

Splitting happens everywhere with competitive games. No big surprise there.

    Also. Dota2.

Many MOBA players are racist, sexist, or otherwise bigots. But cheats? yeah I'll believe it.

They can split the prize all they want, idc. Picking which team wins though is a problem.

And don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

Anyways, it sucks that people feel the need to cheat and fix games and whatnot, ruins the spirit of the game. That being said it was an inevitable step in gaming becoming more like a sport. We should be glad competitive gaming has gotten to the point where its worth trying to pull stuff like this.

It's usually a case of "Let me win, and I'll split the money with you" If it happened the other way around, chances are the deal would be off.

Right. Basically, assuming the teams were at the same skill level, they'd both have a 50% chance at 100% of the money. This way they both have a 100% chance at 50% of the money. If they hadn't rigged the game there was a chance the winner would run off with all the money without splitting it.

The two teams conspired to purposefully let one specific team win, and share the loot. Sharing the loot is fine in my book, but predetermining the winner is not.

    That make more sense?
