Same here. I've used it for a long time and still have it to this day. Still runs too.

I actually agree with you hell even the movies were better. 90's was more rebellious/attitude era especially in Teen movies & music up to early 2000's

I remember when i got this for my birthday present... Tetris and Super Mario Land... played them both to death.. kept Duracell in business lol..

Then it opened a door to so many games.. including one i still hold dear to my heart now... Zelda Links awakening!

Still have the console and game to this day.. Timeless piece of hardware!

Sadly I live in a small city in a third world country so gameboy accessories are pretty rare here during the 90s and we only have batteries to play the gameboy. It sucks but still it was a fun memory I had with the system.

Back in the day I had the impression that a lot of these units were extremely susceptible to the vertical-line problem, which is a pain in the neck to fix. (The ribbon connector in the unit is basically held together with glue.)

I wound up buying a Play It Loud clear unit for $50 when I wore out the buttons on my original unit. (The rubber bits were all torn up.)

This video suggests the screens will rot away, but I think that has to be more of an issue with the Microvision than with the Game Boy.

    The SNES version came first.

Today was the day! I prepared for it and decided to honor the occasion with a birthday cake. Since it was easter, a carrot cake with cream cheese icing was the flavor of choice. I'm not much for baking nor decorating, but it turned out alright I think! Happy birthday GB, thanks for 30 years of fun!

I'd love an OEM reproduced GBC, GBA, & SP with a modern backlight screen. Used ones are usually in poor condition and mods are hella expensive. Not to mention SP batteries likely beginning to fail.

I dunno, I've found some good-condition GBs just looking in shops or on ebay. As for SP batteries, that is a real issue. I've been hoarding them a little or the last few years. Particularly, I bought a number of OEM batteries for Nintendo portables back when Nintendo still sold them new for SP, DS Lite, and New 3DS (non-XL).

Personally, I'm glad that older GBs used AAs, and also that the sun still provides very good lighting even for the original DMG. Now want I really want is better color for the wonderswan, that screen needs way more help than the GB ones IMO.

Still got my original and all the games I had back then. My eyes are bad these days so I only occasionally play Tetris. I took that thing everywhere though - even snuck it into my bag for a trip around America which really pissed my mum off since I guess I missed out on a heap of stuff but I was pretty good at Sneaky Snakes
