My father has wants me and my brother to live with him in the US, therefore, leaving my mom and other siblings behind.
I don't know when he plans for me to leave here but I'm very unsure if I should. I have no idea on how the Americans live(he's in California) and I might have a hard time adjusting to your/their lifestyle, culture, traditions, the way you/they eat, and how they do things...

What I like about the US is advanced technology and more opportunities for me to get a scholarship on a major university, which is my goal so that I could go back to the Philippines and help out!

Since the economy here is bad and one of the poorest around

He told me that I can take a vacation on summer(May - April) and decide if I want to stay there to study on a public highschool

I study in an ACE curriculum school currently.
Right now, I'm hesitating since I only get to stay with my dad and... uh... my stepmother, who petitioned me, and stepbrother who is a year old.... that is the difficult part :wtf: (You get my drift here?) BUT I still have relatives there.... they're just a little far from us.
When I told him that I didn't want to stay there YET, he got a little angry at me and said that I should take opportunities NOW since it would be hard to go there when I get older.
---
I'm a freshman in high school and I'm thinking that I MIGHT be fully decided to stay there on my junior year(3rd) since I stillwant to compete on National Student Convention, one that I attended in almost a month ago, and ISC 2012(don't make jokes on any 2012 bullshit here) ISC 2011... and info if you wanna know .
For many reasons I've grown to love the ACE curriculum and I know there are schools like that on California.. my dad said, it's expensive

---
Now, my dad has been unstable with his promises before and I thought that even if EVER for example I didn't want to stay, he wouldn't let me go back
ohmy.gif
I know my dad of course!
smileipb2.png
But it's not 100% sure he'll do that, but it's most likely.
---

TL;DR Sorry for the wall of text, I just had to share this with somebody...
Should I immigrate to the US to be with my biological father, stepmother, stepbrother?
or stay in the Phils. with my real mother and siblings with my still father providing financially?

Edit: My mind's crazy today, bear with me if my post is messy and out of order

I study in an ACE curriculum school currently. If you're not too sure what to do at the moment, I'd suggest this, as it gives you a chance to know what you'd be getting into

I realise this probably doesn't help much, but I personally think that it's a good idea to go. But if you're not sure whether he'll let you return to the Philippines...if you're there on a temporary/student visa, and you decide to return, he doesn't have much of a choice. :3

He wasn't really angry I think.. Maybe he was disappointed after all his and my stepmom's efforts to do the long process... My 9 year old bro, however, really wants it there so he has no problem anymore. I'll have my US embassy interview soon, dunno when it'll be.

Edit: Had a Skype Video call with him... I was silent about it. But he said next week we might receive the letter from the US Emb.

Well, could be he'd want to keep you there because of the higher standard of living?
Exactly.

The way you describe your dad, it reminds me of how mine was. He has good intentions, but is, himself, in a bad situation due in part to life, and in part his own irresponsibility, and is pretty quick to anger because of it. That and (if I understand you correctly), your step-mom doesn't like you. If neither parental figure makes you feel welcome, you will feel isolated, and therein, unhappy.

There will always be chances to come to the USA, really, even if they're not readily apparent. Regardless, you'll face the same legal issues with staying here whether you do the switch now or in 10 years. Or, hell, if you want technology, Europe and Japan are at our level (if not a bit more expensive due to taxes and such), if not higher.

I don't know what an ACE program is, but if there are issues with transferring programs, you might want to wait until you graduate high school. My old high school's receptionist has a medical degree from some country, but it's not transferable to the USA.

I have close family in the Sacramento area. My (American) father was born there. There are a lot of strong Filipino-American communities in the central valley (like Sacramento and Fresno) and the Bay Area.

I've actually been planning to move to the Bay Area, but that has no real purpose being stated in this thread.

I was born and raised in the central valley in California and graduated from high school just south of Fresno. I can't come out and say "sacramento is freaking great!" because I've never lived there myself, but I have lots of fond memories of that area and of Placer/Tahoe/Reno areas which are connected by highway and train.

The California school system was pretty great when I was growing up there. My male cousin in that area who is a little older than you is on Facebook, if you want to add me on Facebook I will ask him if I can introduce you (completely up to you, PM me if you're into the idea), he can probably answer a lot more specific questions about a peer schooling experience in the sacramento area since he's in high school there (Rancho Cordova actually).
