Thanks, IV is the only one I've really played so I wasn't sure. I saw info boasting about all of the different class combinations so I was hoping for more of a tactical challenge in V. But if all the classes do is determine what weapon or spell you can use to hit for 1K damage it's kind of pointless imo.

There is a bit of strategy under the job system. Like in FFT, you can equip 'two' jobs. Your main job is what decides on inherent abilities, like Thief's Dash ability, or Monk's counter attack. Your main job inherently has all abilities stuck to it, like for example all levels of White Magic.

As you gain Job Points on your equipped job, you'll unlock either new abilities, or abilities you already had. But when unlocked, those abilities can be equipped as the secondary attack (or the second job in a way). So you can equip the Thief's Dash ability on any other job.

In this case, let's say you've attained level 3 White Magic. If you equip Black Mage on and White Magic as secondary, you'll only be able to use 3 levels of White Magic, but all 8 levels of Black Magic, even if you're still at level 1 Black Mage.

So its important to have a balance in your party, since everyone can equip every job in theory, you still don't want to use 4 Knights at the same time for example. Some bosses 'might' require 4 of a kind for a reason or another, but usually diversifying your team is important.

This game is different from IV. This game has more tactics involve.
You get to pick the ability and merge them together.
For example you can take Jump (Double Damage) from a Dragoon and a Dual Wield (2 hits) from Ninja and do a super strong move. You can built a lot of combo depends on the ability you gave the character with.
I finished this game long time ago. It's still a gem.

Finally! I've been waiting for this game to come out. Of course, now I'll be stuck between playing this one and Magical Starsign on the DS and there's Final Fantasy 3 coming out soon as well. [IMG]

Oh well, it's better to have too many games than not enough.

    Btw, happy birthday Thug! [IMG]

Which should I play this or 4? I havent played either, also does this work well on SC?

Well.... I disliked 4, mainly because I thought the characters sucked, but they are both great games, so play whatever you want.

Now all I need is no. 3 and 7... preferebly a DS release for 7... and I have all of the "classic" FF games.

VII wasn't a "classic" Final Fantasy game - it was the first one with 3D graphics.

VII was a good game, but not the "best game evar" like the fanbois claim it was.

Incidentally, I can't wait for VI to come out on GBA... I may even actually buy it. That was a great game.

It was completed nearly ten years ago now. I'd say that's pretty classic.

It's been able to fit on a cartridge for seven or eight years now, if not nearly nine.

Remember how they put Resident Evil 2 on N64? Final Fantasy VII was their first choice, but Square turned them down, if I recall correctly.

RE2 was only one (2 ~identical) CDs... FFVII is 3 CDs with their FMVs (and sort of little ones in game)
It would certainly fit it they'd decide to remove those *pretty useless* FMVs...

Thanks for the info, it does sound like it has more strategy. Another thing I didn't like about IV was the fact you can't pick and choose who's in your party, it was all scripted. How does V work in this regard, do you always use the same 4 chars but can pick and choose what jobs they have? Or can you have more than 4 chars and pick and choose who you want in your party at any given time?

Same 4 characters (more or less, you'll see what I mean), but you can change job outside fights at any time. Jobs have levels as I said, which allow you to increase the abilities you can tack on other jobs, which adds to the combos of abilities you can do.

Like a Dragoon equipped with a White lv3 will be a dragoon that can use lv3 white magic. Sometimes its good to combo differently depending on the situation.

If a fight is too tough for you, adding more healing power as secondary abilities can help.

Or adding let's say the ability to equip two swords, or Red Mage's ability to cast 2x Spells in a single round.

    OMIGOD!

Yeah, great timing; now I can play FFIII, FFV, and FFVII all at the same time.

So many great games; so little time.

So does this have the slowdowns and other glitches that Final Fantasy IV had or is this a decent port?

What's up with all the FF4 hate? 4 is easily the best in the series. Granted I've only played up to 9 (not counting 3), but still. I'd rank them as follows: 4, 9, 6, 1, 5, 8, 2, 7...I couldn't get into 7 despite trying to multiple times...I dunno why just couldn't...

6 is good, but highly overrated IMO. I also think there are too many characters in that game with no real set main group which is something that irritates me personally. Makes you have to develop everyone evenly (which in turn makes you underpowered) and thus you end up having to spend more time leveling up.

I guess I might be partial to 4 as it was the first RPG I was really drawn into (I had played FF1 and DQ/DW1, and the like before). But I still think it's the best FF ever, IMO...

Edit: Selling a lot =/= classic...see 99% of games based on movies and other licensed properties for confirmation of this...

Final Fantasy 6 is the best, but other than mystical quest, all final fantasies are real good, better than most rpgs excluding zeldas.
