yep, it's right... it's a very boring and though large trend in europe... it has replaced crosswords in the newspapers...
people play it in the streets.. yep, they sit on a bench and take out a little shit of paper, then they start scribbling...
very annoying IMO.
I've already tried it, I know the rules and all, but I find it absolutely boring and useless.

I wonder why people like it so much

Same thing here.
All people play sudoku.
I find it boring too.
It is a trend and thing that there are even stand alone sudoku portable video games, table games and sudoku only magazines.
I totally agree, the idea seems quite challenging (and it is) but fun it's not.

What's Sudoku eight btw?

I also don't get this sudoku hype in europe: for me it's not logical but boring. where is the logic in the game? it's all about watching and trying but not a bit of thinking.

That's not the way I play it. Watching, yeah and thinking I do, but not trying, since that'll let me make mistakes too fast.

You should never play a game of Sudoku using trial and error. Each and every number can be obtained logically. For those of you who find it boring, do an expert puzzle and see how long it takes you.

Since I don't stare at a screen enough, I just got this.

Seriously, I like Sudoku. I can understand if other people don't that's fine. I do, and I'm very happy that I can take it with me and not have to carry around a Sudoku book (anymore).

Sudoku is okay when you do it at school (if you do). But why would somebody want to do it in their own time when they could be doing so many other things?

Depends where your "school" is

Being a student means I do a lot of my work from home on my own computer, and having something else to do that you can finish in the 5-10 minuites while scandisk runs (random freezing overheating laptops ftw!

) or in the 20mins it takes for dinner to cook is never a bad thing. I couldn't see myself playing more than 2 games in a row, but you'd be surprised how many silly short breaks in the day there are when you don't have enough time to start anything big. (Zooo's quest mode got plenty of play time over here cause of that

I guess this is the problem with mentioning Sudoku on a video games forum, most people just don't see the point when they can play games.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
