Level-5 has officially announced the release date for their game Time Travellers which will be released on the 3DS, PSP and the Vita. All the platforms get the game on July 12 in Japan. The retail versions are ¥5,980. The PSP and PS Vita download versions are ¥4,980. The official site can be found here.

We previously detailed the story, but here's a recap. In the year 2031, mankind has created a 2000 meter "Space Elevator" in Tokyo Bay. Eighteen years prior, a great disaster known as "Lost Hole" caused destruction to the city, but people quickly recovered, and Tokyo is now developing into an even larger, more modern city than before.

The story begins with announcer Hina Fushimi conducting an interview with once great scientist Kyugo Shindo. During the interview, the research facility the two are in suffers a sudden explosion. If the explosions continue, the result could be a 50 kilometer blast zone.

The game system section mentions the "full voice, full motion" drama that Level-5 promised at the game's announcement some time back. There's one actual gameplay system mentioned at the site: a Quick Timer Event system. More gameplay system details will be shared in future updates.

I'm looking forward to this a lot... Even though the lack of details, it just struck me right away as something i'd like... love at first sight-ish... :) gut feeling...
However, I would like to know how the 3DS and Vita games will differ... two screens vs one, layout, etc... I know one will have 3D and one will have better graphics, but apart from that :)

Considering that the game is releasing on the PSP too, I'm sure that it will look about the same on all platforms aside from a few minor things (anti-aliasing on the Vita and perhaps the 3DS in 2D). It'll probably be like Zero Escape where the 3DS version has the menu on the bottom screen.

Gaming industry is killing me.. Why you ask..? Make games (Story, Graphics, Engines, etc) and release them only in Japan. "Translation procedures are so expensive!" :I

ps. Release this around the globe..

Level 5 opened an North American branch last year to localize their Japanese titles. I'm sure this will be brought over here.

True, but still so many games are left either in the US or the EU region even though the translations (to English at least) have been made.. Hopefully this, like many other games, gets released abroad :)

I don't really see the worship of Level-5 honestly, I can't say I've enjoyed anything they made. I'll be giving this a pass.
there is level-5 hate too.
its called the "we hate bland japanese games" club

Well I'll give them credit on Layton, I don't like the games simply because of their genre but they're well designed, they just don't appeal to me. But DQIX was terrible from what I tried and Inazuma Eleven was just a mess.

Does Level-5 have some sort of time travel fetish or something?

Every single one of the series they've produced has some sort of time traveling element in it.... And now they just made one that's fully about it.

I'm lol-ing hard, but at least they handle time travel pretty well.... I think.

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think they want to take more focus away from their gpus

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

AI assisted game creation might become a thing

At least that's something I think would be pretty cool.

Many TBs of assets and the programming of something like that is going to be tough but I think it's something we might see in 20 years maybe sooner
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there

and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening
