Those sites have adverts and stuff, so they can pay for it.
The Admins here want to keep it advert-free

also this site is heavily customized: Downloads, Wiki, gOnline, ...
Those all take space on the server

This. GBAtemp is ad-free, and I prefer having noobfloods of a few days than having tons of pop-ups saying 'Ya need a penis? Go here!' or 'Click here to play sexy slut game'. I've got other sites for that.
