So, do it like this in reverse way. change uefi to lagecy and back to uefi again.

just get the cheapest adapter you can find with room for it.
i believe it's just a passive pass through.. there are plenty of theese adapters, and even m.2 slot to pci-e port lol
the m.2 is just a a port, there is no new protocols or anything fancy in it, just a different form of the pci\sata sockets combined

the only twist is.. your mobo may not want to boot from it, maybe there are work arounds but i am not sure how difficult is to implement it..
pci-e drives exist, even pci ones exist.. (there existed ram drives powered by an external source) they were used areas where insanely fast storage is great use..
between PCI-e and m.2 nvme ssds the only difference is "phisical appearence" some m.2 ssds actually come with the pci-e adapter lol
with the m.2 slot, it helped made pci-e\nvme drives a regular consumer option, and as a secondary effect, mobos that have this slot do support boot from pci-e
