I neglected to point out that i myself recently got a psp 3000 and iv softmodded it easily. but mine was used it wasnt brand new and it had firmware 6.30 when i got it and i followed the guide and im now running it with snes emulators and iso games easily.

The chances of you being able to softmod it are very high tho, and even if you do get one and you find your insanely unlucky that your one of the like 1% that cant hack it then its not so bad because psp games are dirt cheap these days anyway. I highly recommend getting one!

New here, and thinking of picking up a PSP 3000 as well. My question is, how do I know which firmware will be pre-installed on the PSP-3000? If I buy a PSP-3000 off Amazon.com will it come loaded with firmware that is 6.39 or less...or 6.40 and higher? I don't want to resort to having to use half-byte loader. :/

Well, 6.40 was only on one Japanese game UMD if I remember correctly, while 6.60 is like a few days old. I very much doubt you will have either buying a new PSP.

0% chance of you getting an unhackable firmware right now. Buy.

I hate to bump this thread from the dead but it's pretty much the exact situation I'm in. Thinking about purchasing a new PSP. It will be a Brand New PSP still sealed if I buy one because I don't like buying Used stuff. There's no places around here that sell PSPs anymore so if I buy one it will be from Amazon or Ebay. I assume that a brand new PSP today would be a PSP-3000 model, or is there a higher model? My Question is, is there any chance of buying a brand new PSP these days that is unhackable?

Check the stickies (which were updated a lot since this thread). Every PSP is hackable.

6.60 is hacked, pro-c firmware works great. its just a non-permanent softmod. must restart it everytime you FULL power off, sleep mode to wake up still works no probs.
