I've been having hot flashes so I purchased one of these cool gel masks. Apparently you just throw it in the freezer and it's supposed to cool you down. Looks funny but also may help.
Fridge! Not freezer!

This month I managed to snatch a decent CRT

And with that in mind I decided to get the remaining things for the whole setup! Since I'd like to keep the 6th gen consoles + Wii + Saturn plugged in I went for some shopping and bought a power strip, an extender just in case and an ethernet cable so I could plug either the DreamPi or the OG Xbox.

I also ordered two shelves and I still need to move all those boxes elsewhere, but I'm sure that I can find a place for everything
god im lowkey loving the CRT im a sucker for shit like this, some games don't feel the same on other displays that aren't a CRT like FF7 or just any PS1 game, i wanna get one at some point to play chrono trigger or something

Playing on CRTs is something special, any console generation up to the ps2/xbox/gc and even the Wii would look excellent using S-video, scart or component (if possible). The experience just isn't the same with modern tvs, even with upscalers and retro tv filters etc, tho better than without.

Doing a bit of a clear out and found this bit of history sat in the back of a drawer..

It's a Maximus 360 Lizard & Scorpion 2. From back in the good old days when we had to probe DVD drives to get keys to hack our 360s firmware.

Since I'm supposed to be clearing things out this puppy is probably going to end up at the recycling centre :-(

Those can be worth a bit of money if you find the right buyer, rather then chucking em.

exactly, nothing really beats the CRT experience with older games/consoles it makes me really want to start preserving shit like this and older consoles because they're just too valuable and neat to me to inevitably go to waste.

Just bought a Noctua fan and 3d printed a shroud for my LSI 9300-16i HBA, on initial testing temps have gone down about 30C.

Given the store shutdown, 360 warez is probably going to see a bit of a resurgence.

I have an old banned Xenon lying around wondering whether to RGH or not.

I've still got an old 'cheap supermarket' 15" from the end days of CRTs for things like light gun games, my parents were glad to get rid of it.

That said, it's a bit more complicated here in the UK due to PAL vs NTSC, still remember the day I accidentally discovered 60Hz on my Gamecube.....and later discovered what that actually meant when I played Sonic 1 via Mega Collection.

If I ever see one, I'd like to pick up a 'decent' CRT some day like a Trinitron or PVM.

Plugged my n64 into my 4k to play some OOT and it looked like garbage. It's the reason a bought a CRT.

If the tv has scart inputs it should play ntsc signal with no issues. Any plain consumer crt from the 2000's and on will probably have it (in the pal region). You really don't need a Trinitron or PVM/BVM just for that (play Ntsc games). But for other reasons? Better colors/ accuracy, minimum lag etc sure.

I try to buy hardware as much as I can, and if it's in affordable range, mostly consoles/handhelds/controllers & video cables (the ones i care for that is), as one day they won't be around anymore.. and rarely games because they're usually overpriced, unless it's something i really want to have physically, and it's affordable, and tbh i'd rather spend that money on hardware than giving to resellers/scalpers.. As It's always good to have spares, one day your main console kicks the bucket, for any reason, and you could either try get it repaired or sometimes you can't, either you wouldn't be so much reliant on just that piece of hardware, and you can grab the spare one from attic without any second guesses.

In my case it would be more for quality and SCART I'd expect on more or less any half decent 90s consumer TV given my experience, at least where I live (UK).

But ignoring RF, there are other potential issues such as overscan. Just tested with my modded Super Famicom for example, the border when in PAL mode is different than when I switch to NTSC mode and on this set you can't adjust it (at least through normal methods).

My daughter has been really getting into playing games a lot more recently. I've been letting her use my personal Switch for a while, but she's been finding it hard to use cuz I have the Hori Split Pad Pro controllers instead of standard Joycons and they're just too big for her hands to comfortably hold. She's been occasionally borrowing my wife's Switch Lite instead, so I figured I'll just buy her a Switch Lite of her own to use.

Walmart's been doing one particular sale quite frequently on their website for the turquoise Animal Crossing Switch Lite bundle for only $159, so ordered that one...

And some MOSFETs and a couple RP2040-Zeros :tpi:
