OK, WoW is the king of MMORPGs, they say Guild Wars is also fun (and free, on a monthly basis). But among the top of the line MMORPGs there are also the free ones from small companies, most of them are crap I guess or... are any of those any good?

I'm talking about games like this one or some from this list.
Basically games from independent game companies that try to make a name on the gaming world.

Anarchy Online is good, but I suggest no MMO at all.

I was just curious, some of those look really good!, I wonder if the ads do get those companies all the investment they made.
In my opinion, there is too many licensed games (that can ALSO be for free) to be playing a sup-par free one.

If they're free, you could always.. try them out!
Also, don't expect a community of a free mmo to be entirely friendly. Most of the time they're made up of young kids

Play runescape definately. If the stupid new trade rule didn't come into effect I would hook you up. Actually I still can. If you sign up for runescape tell me and I will hook you up with some stuff.

I tried some free MMORPGs.. Silkroad, Flyff, Maple Story, Ragnarock, Pirate King Online.. found out that they're all the same thing.. all got me bored after 2 weeks.. [IMG]

The quests are all alike, the gameplay is mostly the same, some free MMORPGs use even the same hud [IMG]

If you want a really good MMORPG just stick to WOW!

I would like to suggest The Kingdom of Loathing, which is not exactly an MMORPG.. but it's an RPG, and it's free and fun as hell XD

Some might be.. but most are games from companies trying to jump on the WOW cash train!
While those games have free subscriptions, a lot of them sell items, gold and other stuff for real money.

A MMORPG requires a lot of money to be maintained, "independent" game companies could never do something like that [IMG]

    edit: Where's the auto-merge!? [IMG]

Having played both FlyFF and WoW, I think FlyFF is like a cuter WoW-lite. They play pretty similarly, but you're going to be awash in cuteness in the first few levels, and of course FlyFF isn't the pure soul-stealing powerhouse that WoW is. That said, it's free and a pretty good distraction if you can get friends to play too.

Also, hope that either one of your friends is a buff class or that the ones you find randomly are feeling generous. =P Buffs really make the game a bit easier going and allow you to take on the tougher enemies without too much worry or danger, for the most part anyway.

And hey, who can say no to being able to fly through the air yourself? Broom or board, yeehaw!

Being young isn't the only thing that makes a person unfriendly or rude though. There are older "youth" 15-25 who play those games and some people even older than that.
