Didn't say anything about staying on 3.0. Zzzzz
Well excuse me, princess. I'm not holding my breath, I'll enjoy my 4.x.x games, thank you. We're done here. I'm fucking done.
Whatever. I'm not holding out for 4.x.x exploits.
Now you're just not making sense.
Whatever. I'm not holding out for 4.x.x exploits. I'm done waiting around.
Okay, then don't? I'm just saying to quit making the claims you are about there not being anything past what we've got now. There's nothing pointing to it, and the Switch is still too new to know. Regardless I'm in the same boat as you. I don't care for exploits. I'd rather play the new games instead of leaving my system to collect dust. Jeeeeez
How was I supposed to know you were in the same boat?
I even said I was updating when I get my next switch.
*Sigh* dammit. Shows what I know... >.> Sorry.
Why are you posting misinformation in order to "save face"? I don't have a Switch but if I was new to the hacking scene I might've actually taken this quote as fact. (BTW. There has been major progress made in the PS3 scene as of late. Which will lead to people being able to install CFW on 4.81. I'm aware this is the Switch forum but it goes to show that the statement isn't valid.)
The choice is honestly yours. I haven't heard of any exploits being working on for the Switch past 3.0. You'd basically be gambling on whether or not an exploit is in the works/if an exploit is even possible post 3.0 firmware which could lead to you waiting months if not years. (I'd personally just update it. You bought a Switch to play games, not to idle on the main menu while playing a limited selection of older Switch titles. Although IIRC Mario works on 3.0.1 which is pretty much the only Switch game I'd be interested in.)
Not sure why you're quoting me as I wasn't talking to you and I never said anything of the sort. I haven't told anyone to update or not update. But this isn't the first time I have seen the commentor I quoted giving people baseless advice. It doesnt appear to me that he has any grounds to be telling people things like it's going to be a year to two years before homebrew starts happening on the switch, and that there's definitely going to be releases for later firmwares, and
No it's gonna be nothing like the 3DS, the OpenSource community has blown way past what the 3DS did in the first year. He's just talking nonsense. I couldn't care less whether or not you or anyone else updates, if the OP in this thread asked me I would say to obviously update since he's already past 3.0.0, so I don't give a shit about who updates or dont, what I care about is an accurate representation of the situation.
I'm not trying to convince everyone not to update. I'm just making them aware of how long they will have to wait to get homebrew, and letting them decide. I also state in my sig that my info may be wrong, and you should do your own research, since I may have missed something. And I'm basing my info on how long it takes most consoles to get from exploit to homebrew.
Ultimately it comes down to what people want from homebrew. It seems basic homebrew like original doom is just around the corner. Emulators and other interesting tools may also come some time soonish. If these things interest you then yes do not update. For everything else and if you want to play the latest games and go online then do update.
That's what I said.
Thats fine that it says your "information" comes without warranty, but jumping in and talking like you're knowledgeable about the situation voids that. Give advice on what you are strong in. Giving poor advice isn't helping anyone.
So you know, I couldn't post it inline, but the twitter link to Daekens tweet says that he has achieved arbitrary code execution and the code is on github for whoever wants to implement it. That by definition is homebrew. So homebrew won't be in a year or two, its happening now. The Switch OS is based on the 3DS so it is likely that alot of the implementations/libraries will be adaptable to the Switch. Just give advice on the scenes you keep up on.
No one person can keep up to date on everything, that's why forums and sharing information is valuable. It is worth a lot less when someobdy who isn't in the know comes looking for info and has to sort through every random Joe Blows opinion looking for actual facts. Especially when their opinion is masquerading as fact, how are they to know where to even start?

Then I don't understand what you're trying to say here tbh. What are you referring to when you say "like the 3DS and WiiU'? I know you're not telling people not to up\date, I keep seeing you giving people reasons to update when they ask, thats my point.
I understand your point, I'm not trying to act knowledgeable in the scene, I only say what I know. And as you said, no one can know everything that's happening. Things are always changing. But I get what you're saying, maybe I'll include my sources in what I post from now on.
Nah, not really.
It has carry overs from an early, probably, fork in development but its very much its own thing and will require its own tools (which is what many have been working on).
If nothing else, @aykay55 is correct that too many people think this is a 3DS in how they can and will eventually approach it with their capabilities. Look no further than the recent (several) discussions (pre-loading, eShop, bannable unique IDs, and so on) on here where corrections have had to be made on just how different this system is from a 3DS.
Many genuinely don't appreciate the changes made from the last gen to this on in crypto, and the speed of an open community is warping expectations that are already warped by 3DS capabilities.
I don't think anyone who has any knowledge of security at all had any doubts long before the switch was released that the infrastructure for buying content and crypto was going to be nothing like what the 3ds had. If the avrage Joe Pirate thought that he was gonna be downloading titles from eshop anytime soon thats not who I am talking to. It was already way behind all the other consoles security wise. What I am referring to is the actual operation of the system, there's no reason to reinvent the wheel when you don't need to. Clearly their content delivery system needed it.
Are you saying that you have some kind of knowledge or experience with the inner workings the Switch OS and that I am wrong then please say so and point me to where I need to read up please because I read everything that is public basically and I may not understand everything but I take the time to read it and try. I've had other projects on the go for the last few weeks so I havent been able to stay right on top of the Switch but I try, so please if there's something I missed point it out.
That's sort of the point. People here especially have been very spoiled by the 3DS going so long into this gen with is very old/bad security.
No, you misunderstood. You are right that it has carry overs from the 3DS because from all indication, it forked from an early build of the 3DS (including carrying over much of the 3DS spaghetti) as a platform but with layers of new engineering and redefined libraries and functions, you'd have a hard time carrying over anything. That's why we have libnx and not libraries from the 3DS.
@aykay55 I'm sorry for calling you out. I have no interest in being that guy. I just want people to think about what they're posting. If you think that I am being rude or you just dont like the way I put it I will go back and edit my posts to not refer to you specifically. I'm not here to make anyone feel shitty or bring them down and you were just the first person I saw doing it since I decided I wanted to say something, not the only one. So again I apologize for being abrupt.
Lol it's not rewarding you for not updating, it's just unfortunately where the known exploit was patched away. I'm sure if they could issue the same exploit with later than 3.0.0 fws, they happily would and would be encouraging you to get the likes of Odyssey asap.
