There's a new system update for the Wii U for version 5.5.5U

Are you ready for a system software update? No, not for the Nintendo Switch, but the Wii U! It's been quite a while since we've seen one of these--the last update was issued in September of 2018, in fact. A brand new firmware update is available for the console, bringing it to version number 5.5.5. The official changelog is helpful as usual, giving us that magical sentence we can always expect from Nintendo. Keep an eye on this thread and hopefully we'll find out what exactly this update actually brings to the table.

Improvements to system stability and usability
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

"The Wii U needs a jump!"

*grabs two Wii U Gamepads in separate hands*

*places them on the slim DVD player that is the actual console*

"Clear!"

*Wii U dust that's accumulated clears off, revealing more dust*

"Need more juice!"

*Replaces the Wii U Gamepad batteries with the batteries that are longer lasting, promising Nintendo that they'll pay them for the extra charge later in the process*

"CLEAR!"

*Dust clears off, along with all fingerprints, scratches, smudges, etc.."

This update scared me half to death! I ran over to these forums right away to see if Nintendo was doing one last patch on hacking. Guess they aren't:P Still scared me becuase we haven't had an update in a while.

I still play the wii u daily. It's my favorite system. I have updates blocked. Still on 5.5.1.
Once I got the Switch, while I don't play it daily anymore, I'll never get rid of the U. Can't beat 3 generations of home consoles NATIVELY on one system. Crazy talk these days.

Thats just a standard in the industry the PS3 and Xbox360 have both gotten an update within the past 2 years or so.
but at least on PS3 it made sense: the blu ray keys need to be updated yearly or newer movie discs stop working.
The 360 had some nonsensical updates as well but in reality they had some real improvements like the 16GB limit for USB drives was lifted or how the Xbox emulation was slightly improved because these same games were being sold to Xbox One and Series devices..

I think I have them blocked too.
But the thing is, I can't remember how I blocked them lol.
I tried updating to 5.5.5, but it fails as soon as the Downloading bar appears, then sends the error immediately.

Anyone remenbers what methods there were for blocking updates on WiiU?
I might go ahead and update just for shits and giggles.
