i have played this game many many years ago and should i say i've enjoyed it,but now i can't really remember the name...
i'll say it now "IT'S NOT A FAMOUS GAME" so i would really need an expert who has played a tons of it

the main genre i would say it's stealth but it's also shooter so kind of like mgs and splinter cell but here in each mission you have multiple characters that you switch to because each of them has some special skill that you need to progress and resolve special puzzle or situation thoughtout the missions

as for the story it deals with mafia.a certain group of people against some mafia band for revenge or something along those lines
i think the first mission was rescuing a team member to escape a prison (not too sure to be honest) the second i'm certain was to steal a diamond from a boss mafia in a train

one last thing a lot of those on the team have codenames as the pieces of chess

stealth and shooter, both 1st and 3rd person you can switch between them as you like.
i said it that the game mechanics are like mgs and splinter cell,i would say the closest one to it is mgs2

graphics were in 3d but it wasn't so really great...

year?i may guess between 1990 and early 2000?

i also kind of remember that it was released on other platforms (360 i'm quite sure,ps2 maybe)

Xbox 360 was 2006 so it wouldn't be that unless it was re released.

I didn't play many games but was it cartoony graphics or normal graphics?

a bit cartoony yes
anyway there ain't so many games that have playable characters addressed as chesspieces (and something like that is hard to forget) so i really hope that someone like me who has played it replies

Wouldn't be timesplitters by chance?

Oh sorry not sure about chesspieces
it wasn't fantasy.
it deals with mafia but it doesn't have so much of a dark tone.
and not all the characters are addressed as chesspieces, only half.

So was NOLF I think, but IIRC you couldn't switch characters in that game, or switch between 1st/3rd person.
i know well what type of game was and i'm 100% able to recognize it and it's not no one lives forever.
it has a male protagonist and if i really have to squeeze out my memory he has the codename "The Mind" while the main girl is "The Cat" but of these two info i'm really not sure

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
