My current primary controller (PS2 controller with USB adapter) works just fine on the menu and *some* games, but for others it doesn't work at all.

Is there any homebrew app that lets you configure it to be recognized as a legit controller always (meaning it will always work)?

I only know there's a homebrew called PS3XPAD that enables you to use your xbox 360/one wired controllers on a cfw ps3, not sure if also enables other usb controllers. you could check it out

    my dad works for nintendo.
old controllers use direct input, while games made after 2010 usually just want to use xinput
you can try x360ce, is a xinput emulator.. but it's a case of trial and error.. there are some others...
or get a real xinput controller wich in my opinion is worth it.. saved me loads of hassle and configuring...
