I was completely unaware of any of this, and I'm inclined to sympathise with you - it's easy for things to get blown out of proportion as news spreads from person to person. And regardless of what actually happened, that doesn't make harassment okay, people often seem to enjoy taking shots at those they consider to be worse than themselves.
That said, you also say you've done things that are very bad. I don't know what those are. If that is the case, it's not that surprising that people might still hold that against you. You want the drama to be over, but you can't change the past.
Basically, it sounds to me like you're highlighting two seperate issues. If people are making mountains out of molehills, then avoiding talking about what actually happened isn't going to help. Setting the record straight isn't guaranteed either, but it's worth a try.
But the actual mountains? They won't go away. All you can do is clear up the half that's exaggerated, and hope that apologising for the half that isn't eventually regains you trust. You can't tell anyone to trust you, but it's sure as hell not going to happen while the waters are muddied.
