90% of this comment section is either crying about a lack of Crush 40, or crying because "rap just isn't Sonic". Just enjoy it, or don't enjoy it.

    1. You have no idea if the makers of the film have asked Crush 40 to do a song during the movie. Or for the soundtrack. Still a possibility. This is for press and recognizability.

    2. "Sonic is only allowed to be rock and roll or techno". That's super limiting. Sonic was always about trying to emulate the cool, yet edgy side of main culture. This day and age? That's rap. He's still gonna be a finger wagglin', chili dog eatin', blue blur but the music they use for him doesn't have to be limited to 1 or 2 genres.

    Not a bad song!

The pixel art... eh. There are so many talented pixel artists out there that would have loved to have done this, or even contribute to this, but it looks like they hired some one who isn't as dedicated to the art. First rule of pixel art - keep the pixels consistent and in resolution, and that's not happening in this video, especially when you're trying to mix in an edit of the Sonic 1 (or maybe 2) sprite.

so either like it and say "wow so amazeballs" or stfu and don't say you don't like the track

so yeah while your correct they could technically use pretty much any genre of music to be the theme song (but tbf I don't think anyone would object to it being rap at all, not liking 1 "rap song" or specific style of rap doesn't mean you hate all rap,), but that doesn't change the fact that the song itself should still imbue the character of sonic if its supposed to be the theme song for the sonic movie, just saying "speed me up" or "I run" in a monotone bored voice every few seconds is good enough is missing the point of music, its not jut the words/sounds/sound effects and audio clips that matter but how they are said, maybe simply asking them to try to sound like they are actually having fun would've made all the difference, but to me this track just feels dead and lifeless, not 2 characteristics I would classify as representing sonics personality, even gangsta paradise had more life to it than this

as far as the actual track its mundanely fine and I wouldn't really be expecting anything more from a video game movie soundtrack, I think its just the "energy" and "fun" that feel missing from the singers, it genuinely sounds like they hated doing the recording and just wanted to shit it out on the first take and get their money and ....run ^_^

but on a more serious note, I wonder what 4 player mega drive game they were playing

Sounds like an ordered mishmash with no engaging progression, an audio recipe with no real soul or direction.

    Meh pixel art.

Will see the movie once it hits the torrents.

It's almost like they took notes from the mortal kombat trailer and thought it'd be a great idea. Bonkers.

Sure I didn't enjoy it, so what's your point?

I never complained that the movie lack of Crush 40 soundtracks, it's just this Rap song doesn't fit as a Sonic theme, and the song itself is lame btw.

Every character, game or movie have a theme, the theme is supporting these characters, in this case we have sonic, he is fast, he is blue, he is cool, and all these years we are used to rock and techno music with sonic, so this kind of theme stored in our head.
Shifting to Rap is not that bad, but mumble? Whats cool about mumble rap? It's stupid, anyone who knows true Rap music will agree that mumble is crap, so please don't convince me it's cool.

Big 2D Sonic fan from the genesis days. I know lots of people will disagree, but Crush 40 is super over-rated. Very mediocre rock and compositions; which is crazy since Jun is a chiptune genius imo. That being said, I loved Adventure 1 and 2's OST but I felt like something was lost music wise beyond that point.
The only reason I like that they got Wiz Khalifa doing a song like this is because of his oldschool rap tunes that used retro game songs as their loop, examples are:

    and also

Anyways that's my 2cents, hoping this movie doesn't totally suck, but tbh I'm not holding my breath

The song was okay until it got to the part with mumble rap.

I am not a follower of rap (I usually make the effort to watch end of year best of/worst of lists these days, hardly following day to day and probably have missed out on several historically notable rappers) but at the same time there are plenty of songs I like going back years. That said maybe it is just a case of "to each their own" but I am usually fairly good at "lose the guest bit/verse as that drags everything down" and I found both those spots tepid as you like, and as for 7/10 from that without it... has rap become that mediocre that such a thing is 7/10? 7/10 from where I sit is way above average (if you go with numbers than that is 5/10) and heading towards good, the sort of thing I normally expect to find padding out an otherwise excellent album.
For the reasons I went with before I found this utterly banal soundtrack song, not even so bad you could listen to it ironically or throw it on as a bad song for everybody to dance like mad to as the token bad song of the evening.

That said if we are all suggesting more mainstream music that might also have been suitable then

    or maybe

Wasn't rap more Shadow's thing? At least when they first introduced him and his "crew." They gave him a gun and the whole nine yards.

It was also incredibly cringe and borderline offensive, which is why I thought they had dropped the concept permanently during the 2000s.

Meh at best, hard pass. Just b/c Khalifa had a smash hit on the Fast 7 OST doesn't mean he's the go-to guy for every soundtrack.

It's meh. At least it's not Gangsta's Paradise, which makes no sense to be in this movie.

Wasn't joking. You've heard the opening to Sonic Heroes right? 90% of the music that band makes is cringe city.
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of tracks they made for Sonic Adventure 2 that I really ended up enjoying, but personally speaking, I think Jun is just a better chiptune artist than guitarist. But that's like, just my opinion man.

Think she just played that role back then.

No need to be so salty, but since you think you know SONIC music better than all of us, explain how does this fit SONIC?
