The PlayStation 4 reaches 102.8 million sales, becomes second best-selling home console of all time

New statistics show that the PlayStation 4 is one of the most popular game consoles of all time. According to Sony's recent financial results for the quarter, the PlayStation 4 has just reached a massive 102.80 million sales. This officially places the PS4 as the second highest-selling home video game console, dethroning both its progenitor, the original PlayStation, and Nintendo's massively popular Wii in one fell swoop. The only console that surpasses such high sales numbers is the PlayStation 2, which sold over 155 million units during its reign. If you factor handheld consoles into the equation, then the PS4 is only the fourth highest-selling, beaten out by the original Game Boy/Color line, and the Nintendo DS.

While attaining such a high amount of sales is impressive, it appears that as the PlayStation 4's lifespan comes to a close, sales are beginning to slowly decrease. Sony originally predicted that the console would sell 15 million units this fiscal year, but they've lowered their projections to a slightly smaller 13.5 million.

Nono it was really slow at the start. Maybe except for Japan but the west it was kind of slow.
What? I am sure it sold 1 Million units on its opening day, the best launch for a PlayStation console to date, I don't know where you're getting that it was slow at the beginning, not to mention that it actually sold 100 Million units faster than even the PS2

I remember how much it struggled at the beginning of it's life. It all pointed to the PS4 being a major flop for Sony. Man it have turned around haven't it?
Dude the PS4 literally outsold the Xbox One 4:1 globally during their first year. I don't know what struggle you remember but the PS4 was sold out everywhere for a long time after launch and dominated the Xbox One from day one till today.

Then I stand corrected. I must have mixed it up with the PS3 if so.

I know at least ten parents that bought their kid a PS4 for Fornite just because you don't have to pay for online for Fortnite, whereas Xbox One, you do.
So if I know ten...
Like I said I heard atleast 3 parents talk about it everyday

Hmmm.... so let's give it a ballpark figure of about 115mill by the end of its lifespan.
Xbox One half that - 58mill.
Wii U? 7.

So that's a total of 173,000,007 units sold in total.

I know 'Switch says hi' but that's overlapping the console generations, and probably around the same figure as the Xbox One total (at best) so far.

Wii 101.6m
PS3 87.4m
360 84m

Total 273m.

That's a whopping 100million consoles less. Or 50 million factoring in the Switch (at best). Quite a figure. Add to that the number of people who will have upgraded to PS4 Pro/Xbox One X..
My point? Actually I forgot what I was trying to make

I wonder if after 7 years, Sony found a way to cut costs and sell it for the magic price point of $99 and boost the sales even further before retiring the PS4.
