Everyone can remember the moon leak, either cause you where banned for using or how good it was lol. What I don't get is where it came from, I can't find any info online about it, only downloads to it and news. Was it some person at nintendo that leaked or another PM colour splash scenario again?

Anyone know who he is? Some tester/dev at nintendo? It's not like anyone can just find an unreleased game and spread it like

Most probably the dumper worked in a retail store that got cartridges early (because obviously they don't get delivered right on the day the game is out but before that day).

Maybe, but it was a whole 10 days before the release, seems a bit early for stock to come. Wonder how he did it without getting caught, they must do a stock count after all

either retail store worker, storage worker or someone of the long chain of delivery companies getting the games from production to storage to retail.
they don't count every individual game. they might come in boxes of 50. he might have stolen from a box that only was checked days later.
he might have stolen one before it was even boxed, no one knows.

If they really wanted to they could find the person who leaked, they clearly have a vendetta against pokemon moon pirates, banned every single one that went online with it. It seems fishy that they did not try to publicly humiliate/shame the leaker. It's also fishy that this is the first game they started perma banning people for getting early. What's even more weird is that the 4chan source poster revealed their username and didn't go by anon witch shows they didn't care about hiding their identity. Dunno maybe this is just all conspiracy lol

nothing about this is is fishy or surprising.

no they cant find the person who leaked it without access to the ip logs of mega where the leaker first uploaded it. they're not getting these. without those, they don't even know from which country that person leaked the games (it could be any of them, but its probably china or us)

they banned people (from online) because for once, they had a chance too. it might be they first thought about it too, but it's probably because its been the first time they had a chance since they had servers setup that logged trials to connect. there've been multiple leaks before, but few games had online functionality that goes as far as pokemons. kirby planet robobot was leaked like a month or two early, wasn't it? but it had no online so no way to ban anyone for it. had they not had the servers ready for that (as in not entirely down and no way to connect to anything) they couldn't have banned anyone.
the fact that people who wanted to play pokemon would most likely buy a new console probably helped convince someone that a ban-campaign would end up paying off in multiple ways.

why in the world would they try to humilate or shame that leaker? if they could find out who he was, they'd sue him. possibly as discreetly as possible. because really, would you draw even bigger attention to the fact that A) you can get your games for free on this console and B) the most preordered game forever on a 3ds is available two weaks early for people that don't want to pay money.

the source poster used a fresh username, obviously. its as good as being anon and its entire purpose was to prevent two dozen more anons to post virus-ladden links. (as they tried obviously).

Yeah I know there is a logical explanation to it all but it would be pretty funny if nintendo leaked their own game just to make a statement

Reading this thread is only making me think about how the leaked game had a version of 0
Unlike the games from release date.. 1024 and 2048 were their versions iirc

The leaked version was defo different thought, it lacked any manual which was really odd, all you could do was launch the game nothing else

Is there any explanation why there was no e-manual? All my legit backups have one so it makes me wonder why the moon one didn't

    That I'm not sure.
For all we know the dump could have edited out the manual (it isn't hard and who cares about the e-manual? Its not cool like older ones with art of the characters and stuff)

Yeah but what would be the point of that? It's not like 3GB and 3.001GB is like that much of a difference (or whatever the exact size of the leak was) I'm thinking it might have actually been the final dev build or something like that but it's just speculation

The leak is exactly the same as the final game.
Why is this even a big deal? Not leak it is a indev build

It's not just none knows how the thing got leaked for sure is all, just educated guesses. Like a few months back nintendo messed up big time with colour splash and released it 2 weeks early in the USA XD but then got rid of it ASAP so that was a no brainer where the leak came. Same thing happened with scribblenauts unlimited on the EUR wii u, they somehow managed it twice albeit with a 3 year gap. I'm just interested in finding out where the leak came from since it was the most iconic leak in nintendo history due to its outcome from people using it but there is absolutely no confirmation on where the hell it came from
