The Original DOOM trilogy has quietly launched on Switch/PS4/XB1

Launching with little fanfare are the first three DOOM games, in order to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary. Bethesda has brought DOOM, DOOM II, and DOOM 3 to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. They're all currently available to buy digitally, with the first two games costing $4.99, while 3 is priced at $9.99. The first two games are also on both iOS and Android, if you enjoy your classic games on the go.

Celebrate Doom’s 25th anniversary with the re-release of the original Doom (1993). First released in 1993, Doom introduced millions of gamers to the fast-paced, white-knuckle, demon-slaying action the franchise is known for.

Experience the classic demon-blasting fun that popularized the genre home or on-the-go.

Doom (1993) includes:

  • The expansion, Episode IV: Thy Flesh Consumed, with nine additional action-packed levels
  • Local four-player deathmatch
  • Local four-player co-op
Doom II
Celebrate Doom‘s 25th anniversary with the re-release of Doom II. This beloved sequel to the groundbreaking Doom (1993) gave players the brutal Super Shotgun to bear against deadlier demons, and the infamous boss, the Icon of Sin.

Battle the demon hordes at home or on-the-go on Nintendo Switch.

The re-release of Doom II includes:

  • The Master Levels, 20 additional levels made by the community and supervised by the developers
  • Local four-player multiplayer
  • Local four-player co-op
To save Earth, you must descend into the depths of hell, survive demon hordes, and take part in the fiercest battle ever.

Doom 3
Celebrate Doom‘s 25th anniversary with the release of Doom 3, available for the first time on Nintendo consoles.

In this critically acclaimed action-horror re-telling of the original Doom, players must battle their way through a demon-infested facility before entering the abyss to battle Hell’s mightiest warrior—and put an end to the invasion.

Doom 3 includes the Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Missions expansion packs.

The hurdle is these are Unity remakes using the original game data WAD files and not the original engine at all. It's just slapped together so it can be multi-platform. They didn't spend time on silly things like taking advantage of a single console's diverse control schemes.

Uhhh... In fact they *did* implement Switch specific control schemes so you're wrong there. The issue is that they've restricted the only true "classic" theme to multiplayer only.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

What do you mean no external joypad support? Retroarch supports bluetooth and otg controllers, Unless your not using retroarch?

I think he's referring to the official releases....

The controls are butchered. There's no was to have a real "classic" doom control experience, despite the games name, unless you're playing split screen using a single joycon. All the one player modes require dual joycons or pro controller and use the much more "modern" (and impossible for me to use) twin stick control scheme. I'm mighty pisses off, I am.
I got used to it, but it was a bit of a learning curve for me as well. I'd really appreciate them adding tank controls, or better yet, customizable inputs, but I honestly don't see that realistically happening.

'Tank controls'. Is that the term for the old control scheme? It would be a lot easier to explain my gripes if I knew the correct terminology! :)

It's so annoying that the control scheme is actually *there* for multiplayer mode but unusable in single player.

I will never be able to get used to twin stick control schemes. It's like using chopsticks; no matter how many times I try I just can't do it

Yes because out of all the hundreds of thousands of twin stick games out there, your personal favourite one is going to be the *one* game that I'll actually be able to get the hang of.

Jeez...

how on earth is it trivial? lmao
Because you live in developed countries where you get to spend your free time playing games instead of dying and you want to complain about a minor inconvenience.
is this sarcasm?
No. I intended it literally. It makes me sick to look at what is going on in the world and then hear you people whinging about inconsequentialities.

"There's people dying, so you have no right to complain." Sound logic there, bud. Shame it doesn't work.

I never said people don't have the right to complain. Nice try putting words in my mouth there, bud. Shame it didn't work. My point was in response to somebody asking why this complaint is trivial. Complain all you like, but in the context of the terrible lives some people have, you all just sound spoilt.

This is terribly moronic.

So there seems to be a big update for this which allows playing mods. I don't know if you can load your own or not, but three seem to be provided as standard.

Unfortunately there's *still* no way to use sensible controls so the game is unplayable for me :(. I've *tried* getting used to the stupid twin-stick controls but it's just not happening. This is Doom FFS... I've been pressing a button to strafe in Doom for the last 20 years... That's a habit that just can't be broken, apparently.
