The Nintendo Switch is officially launching in Brazil

switch brazil.jpg

Back in 2015, Nintendo stopped all of its direct sales in Brazil, reportedly due to huge taxes it had to pay in order to continue its operations. Nintendo fans had to resort to imports and resellers so as purchase Nintendo consoles like the Switch. Recently, the country lowered its import tax on electronic games hardware and could be the reason to attract Nintendo back to resume its sales in the country. The console maker announced today that the Nintendo Switch will officially launch in the country. No time frame was given other than it will be "coming soon".

Oof, coul have lived without reading this one. Brazilian is not a race, friend. If you want to go this route the word you're looking for xenophobia, not racism.

I wish. All my information in basically every account I have online is fake, I usually just fill them randomly. I'm not gotta reveal my age because I don't like having real information linked to my accounts, so let's say I'm older 40 and younger than 50.

Those are pretty easy to find here too: https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br...cking_id=689d4317-abe1-41f3-8f7f-fd9dbc9c1574

Seller is even platinum. It's not like mercado livre is actually checking things being sold there, there are platinum stores selling pirated rom packs and China knoff consoles full o roms there.
I see.
Also, yeah i overreacted, and i still think the joke's not funny, but the post saying it was a racist stereotype (the sega joke) just made me laugh so hard. It's just stupid.

Oh don't worry, I totally agree with you that the joke is not funny and please don't take my post as being rude, patronizing and shit like that, it was not that intention if it came like that. It's just not worth the hassle to worry about these things, I'm an old dude and in my experience people don't change, so you're just bringing bad vibes stress to your life. Once you get the hang of ignoring toxic people you'll feel way more empowered than just responding to them.

I actually sell modded consoles on Mercado Livre, I love modding them as a hobby but don't have time to play them all, and have my own "jeitinho brasileiro" to game the system: I actually ask for more than I want but I make a "promoted" listing (it usually costs 300 for a promoted listing when the console you're selling is 1600, so I make a listing asking for 1900), so I put in the description I can actually sell for cheaper but will need to make a new listing, all the person needs is to ask in the questions and I'll send them a new listing I make in Mercado Livre's free tier. I'm not gaming the buyer ofc, just gaming mercado livres promotion system.
being fair about the roms thing, when authorities themselves dont care about piracy, its hard for ML to care themselves, as for what you do about the price, its not a scummy practice because its only to avoid paying a comision, what is wrong is specifying on the description that you want more than what the actual listing says

Fine, you knew what I meant. It is a shitty stereotype like all the others, boring shit. People make fun of us for a lot of shit and I'm dead tired of it already.

Luckily GBATemp allows you to leave it blank or not put a birthday year, if I'm not mistaken. There is no need to give any (fake) info here unless you want.
Look, I'm not gonna lie to you and say I can predict the future, but I work in the investment section of a big bank here in Brazil and money is being pulled in some very high rates from here, we were running some numbers last week against the numbers of this same bank in other countries and the rates aren't even close, I can't tell you the exactly number but money is exiting around 30% faster in Brazil than the second worse country this bank operates, and it operates in some pretty crap markets. I'm not gonna lie to you and say that investors can predict the future, but they have been pretty successful trying, when big money starts pulling investments out of a country its usually not a great sign, despite the name stagnation is pretty profitable and you can be sure these people don't hate money.

I don't know what will happen, but I'm not keepkng a single cent in BRL, it'll either go into some international paper or straight into USD.
Probably related to the low interest rate we have right now, "rentismo" was big due to our usually high interest rate (7% to 14,25% since 2009), but right now it is 2%, the lowest it has ever been in Brazil's history. Sure, I can be talking out of my ass, but I think it is a solid reason for that. Either way, keeping some money in USD right now is likely a safe bet, if shit does hit the fan, you'll have something to fall back.

It's not like this is going to change shit. At the end of the day, it'll more likely than not remain an overpriced console with faulty hardware (Joycons are still a joke in terms of reliability) which will pretty much require pirating due to the high costs of the games themselves.

São Paulo is the 4th largest city in the world and the state of São Paulo itself has a GDP of over R$ 2 trillion. Brazil is the 9th highest economy worldwide in terms of GDP, and that's including all of the terrible, awful shit that vermin of a "president" has done in the last two years. There's absolutely zero need whatsoever to get mad over some random person on the internet who either:
  • lacks knowledge in elementary geography or;
  • jokes around purely intending to spite people.

I am not blaming. here in Brazil everything has always been expensive, mainly being Nintendo. I'm just saying that nothing has changed or will change if she comes back to Brazil.

That's just plain wrong. You're probably pretty young.

In 2014 I paid R$400 for a sealed 3DS and in 2012 I paid R$500 for a sealed Wii.

2008 I got a PS2 for R$300. Things have been way cheaper in the past. Heck, even the PS4 right now can be found relatively cheap (around R$1000~).

The official price is out: R$ 3,000.00 (~USD 560.00 as per today currency exchange rate).
In other words, no one with a speck of common sense will buy it from official retailers.

Way to go, Nintendo. Almost twice the US MSRP, on a country with less than half the minimum wage (which is pretty much the upper limit of the average household income up to the 50th percentile).

Only for used or illegal units. Not even "tax-free" imported PS4s are that cheap.

Used has been the way to go for me for a long time now. Newer consoles lose their value real fast. I don't care about warranties since I can fix things myself, I make a living doing that actually.
