Just when you thought one stylus for the 3DS would be enough. You were wrong.

"Touch! Double Pen Sports" is an upcoming sports game for the 3DS that uses, wait for it, two touch pens. The game features seven different sports, such as baseball and boxing, and three different types of "exercise" games.

These exercise games focus on using both the right and the left hand at the same time and are divided in to three categories: "Separate", "Trace" and "Symmetry". But the real story here is two touch pens!

While this is the first 3DS game to feature two touch pens, Namco Bandai did release Taiko no Tatsujin games for the Nintendo DS that used two touch pens, too. And the original Nintendo DS (the fat one), had a nub on the strap that could conceivably be used as a second stylus. But those were 2D.[/p]

How it works(I think) is when you touch two places at once on the DS's touch screen, it registers it as touching the point directly in the middle of the two points. So, by using that...

I don't really feel like explaining it but it's not multi touch.
It's just a conveniently placed trigger between both places that have to be touched.

The 3DS and DS don't have multitouch. There is an interesting way to get the multitouch effect, though. When the system detects two inputs, you get the center point between those two points as input.

This is stupid. It doesn't seem like a game I would want to put hours in at home and I won't be able to bring this on the go. The only thing that makes this game even remotely interesting is the usage of two styluses.

Interesting use of the absence of multi-touch.

Although I'm not personally interested in this game at all...it is rather refreshing to see new ideas...thats the kind of stuff that keeps the gaming industry alive...

The DS is able to detect how many styluses touch the screen.

I heard Apple patented multi-touch screens or something like that.

If I remember correctly, my brother's Droid Incredible has the hardware to have multi-touch, but there is no software that allows it because of the patent.

I don't know. I heard that a long time ago, but it's hard to believe.

Multi-touch is supported as of Android 2.2. And some phones that don't have the hardware to have multi-touch (Nexus 1) have it with software.

Not quite. Apple patented one implementation of multitouch using thermal sensors and glass. The incredible is built with different multitouch technology and there is nothing stopping developers from using it. Any Droid app with pinch-zoom for example.

Good thing I have 3 hands to play this, otherwise I'd be tempted to call it almost non-portable.

But it just works with the old DS and the DSLite.
Its because they also have a sensor for pressure inside.
DSi's don't have this sensor so there is no solution for multitouch for DSi
