We didn't get a fancy trailer showing off the latest DLC addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster, but we do have confirmation of who the next fighter will be. Keeping it short and to the point, Nintendo announced that "a fighter from ARMS" will be added to the game as part of the Fighters Pass 2. As to which character it is, that's still unknown at this point, but we'll likely learn more closer to the DLC's release, sometime this June.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: The first fighter in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2 will be joining the battle from the Nintendo Switch game ARMS! The fighter will be announced and released this June.

Am I the only one that enjoyed arms? I played the game during their free trials and demos and it's a fun party game with friends and family.
I know it'd be awesome to have 3rd party characters but why can't Nintendo allow their own characters on their game

its not that people dont want nintendo characters dlc but they dont want this character , people would want from nintendo much more characters like

waluigi
black shadow/samurai goroth(captain falcon nemesis)
midna/girahim
bandana dee

heck im preety sure people would have prefered captain toad/king boo or some cool pokemon like scizor/one of the new pokemons.

while the game wasnt crap, it was just a gimmiky game that barely anyone will remenber and probably will never get a sequel.

i forgot arms existed but tbh springman already exists, i feel like it will be ribbongirl in smash. i dont get the hate, it was an alright game but didnt have much to offer. some people need to chill, i might not even use this character but theres 5 other slots left.

I think even as the first fighter in the second pass it'll generate more hate than Byleth. Like at least Three Houses was a huge hit for Switch, ARMS was a definite flop despite the fact that I enjoyed my time with it. Even Ring Fit girl would've been a better choice.

Hmmm, the speculation machine is rolling...

When they revealed that the next fighter is from the ARMS series, they showed a lot of icons of characters from the game to tease who it might be. Springman is on that list of icons, even though he's an Assist Trophy. It really makes me wonder why they'd put his icon there if there is some implicit rule Nintendo has been following in choosing fighters that "no characters already made as Assist Trophies make it as DLC".

Perhaps they never intended him to be the next fighter and just put his picture there for the sake of making the character list complete, but knowing that Nintendo does acknowledge people wanting Assist Trophies to be made fighters (like Isabelle during the jump from SSB4 to Ultimate), this makes me hold out hope that they're going to raise some assist trophies to playable fighter status.

I was gonna grab fighters pass 2 as soon as the first character was announced, but this is definitely making me reconsider. Might be better to just get 4 of the 6* individually, since there's bound to be at least one more questionable pick included.

A lot of that I think comes from how extremely limited Switch's library was when ARMS released. I'm sure I wasn't the only one that bought it, played it for 20ish hours, and then traded it in before it lost much value. Also, considering Three Houses has been out less than half as long and Fire Emblem is a relatively niche series, I'd definitely put ARMS into the flop category. At least where Switch's normally-ludicrous sales are concerned.
