Sorry to hear the issues still exist. I have no idea if the ethernet adapter could be causing issues but maybe try unplugging that, if you haven't already, to see if it makes any difference.
My suggestion or rather recommendation, is to buy a reliable SD card to use for everything besides large games (if you have the means). Large games would include Wii, GC, PCE CD, Sega CD, Neo CD, PS1 etc...being installed on HDD, with all other files booting straight from SD.
I have used many SD cards for many (75+) softmod setups with WFL running the show. SanDisk ImageMate is a solid card imo, i have 2 128 GB cards of my own that have stood the test of time, most recently using a Samsung 256 GB Pro Plus that is as good as anything i have used.
HDD or external hard drives are a crapshoot in my experience. Important they are taken care of but failure is inevitable regardless of brand. I have never used Toshiba, only WD and Seagate and have had at least 6-7 fail within 5-6 years of use. WD My Passport Ultra 2TB have been good to me, i still use 2 of these that are at least 10 years old for the Wii. WD My Passport Ultra 1TB works well after 6+ years of use but i use this for XONE. WD My Passport X 2TB has also been reliable but not used for Wii gaming. Lastly, i have a Seagate 500GB i bought in 2009 still working that rules over everything. I think maybe it is luck sometimes but i try to stick with what works.
I am curious what others use for SD and HDD and why? $Price$ is always a factor but reliability will always be most important. If/when others read this question, please give your input.
