First of all the great flood is recorded in many culture and religions. Greek for example blame it on Zeus so it's not just Christians.
Second there are a few discoveries that more ancient recording have nothing about the moon, as if the moon don't exist at their time.
When the moon gets introduced into Earth's orbit the relatively sudden appearence of such body is more than enough to cause Tidal wave capable of moving continents.(Until it gets rearranged into the shape today and the waves dies down) Of course there is no good evidence of such major geological shift. And the sheer size of the moon suggest direct collision is likely to cause both planets to shatter instead of bouncing back.
