Some people are just not into current mainstream slop.
Most "blockbusters" in the market might as well not exist to me.

I'd be ecstatic if:
- SQEX announced a new Octopath or Dragon Quest main entry (or Builders 3).
- Bamco announced a new Tails (or even an old JP-only one remastered/ported to the West).
- Capcom finally releasing a new Megaman X, linking it to Zero (any new megaman game would likely be good), or revitalizing their Breath of Fire franchise proper (not the mobile abomination that was 6, or the weird changes we got in 5).
etc.
- Sony decided to revive Wild Arms.
- Someone competent revived Heroes of Might and Magic.
etc.

All the above also assuming the companies got it right, instead of doing weird experiments or pandering to western insanity.
God, I miss good turn-based RPGs.

It's hard to get excited for new IPs though, since we can only hope it's a good game.

I know Nintendo won't say a thing here, so no new Mario things to expect, which would also make me very happy, since those are consistently good games.

At the moment, I'm more concerned about the huge backlog I've got than new games TBH.
Here's hoping the new Dynasty Warriors is fun.

this. ive been thinking about this for a while now, and i can't decide if anyone talented got out of the industry because of how toxic it is, or if the industry just became SO big, that you now have every shmuck who completed a code academy class coming out of the woodwork to make a game and thats how you end up with this absolutely miserable games that we have. Enix as a prime example of this, i firmly believe that the people at enix exist entirely on a diet of ayahuasca and end up coming up with ridiculous nonsense, and thats how we end up with what we have.

I agree. There's nothing too special about a family friendly platformer game similar to Mario, doesn't show anything too advanced or impressive compared to Wukong or Onimusha. People are mad because they're being lied to by the video game industry and the corruption it has surrounding it - from accusations of sexual harassment in the workplace to tokenism by making all black characters more inclusive compared to other races.

You forgot "Crunch" and releasing broken games on launch. Not to mention game companies being partly owned by China or Saudia Arabia.
I have just finished Astro Bot, actually I forced myself to finish it. Everything about it is overrated from haptics to level design to annoying music. I would rather stab my eyes out than platinum the game which I tend to attempt.
But im equally surprised to see that in various sources around the internet, there is no consensus on this award. Some dislike astrobot, others defend it. That should be proof enough that a contentious games does not deserve such a title...

This thread has shown me that there's some real dumbasses on this site.
The award show is not rigged because your opinion doesn't match the result. Grow up.
I though it was actually rigged, no? As in that the public vote is worthless compared to some selected jury. If that's not the definition of "rigged" then I don't know what it is...

Do you consider criminal trials rigged since the jury decides and public opinion, in theory, doesn't?

Where did you ever heard that public opinion mattered in a criminal trial?
And hell, it's a very good thing that it doesn't!
Let's say everyone just talks about "This man who killed his wife and sister in law", I'm pretty sure a lot of people will say "put him on the electric chair" without even knowing any facts about what really happened (it could turn out to be a suicide deal, or some home robbery that didn't turn well).

Then why are you complaining about this.
Did I? I just told OilFreak that the definition of "rigged" do apply here.
Then, you came in and made some random comparaison with something entirely different.

EDIT : Just realised how "rigged" and "OilFreak" sound funny in the same sentence :rofl2:

I read something interesting, most of the games were rpg's sans balatro and astrobot and were effectively stealing votes from each other, thats why astrobot won.

We can also argue why the judges who had 90% voting power were very questionably chosen from publications and sites that have nothing to do with games like variety, npr, latimes, venturebeat, and pride.com

At the end of the day the awards section is a joke and will always be a joke. Just come for the announcements and ignore the nonsense inbetween.
