I feel like there's a good majority of people on this site who don't even like video games anymore and just don't realize it. The amount of disappointment and "meh"s i see from new announcements here is staggering- and it's always from the same folks too!
Some people are just not into current mainstream slop.
Most "blockbusters" in the market might as well not exist to me.

I'd be ecstatic if:
- SQEX announced a new Octopath or Dragon Quest main entry (or Builders 3).
- Bamco announced a new Tails (or even an old JP-only one remastered/ported to the West).
- Capcom finally releasing a new Megaman X, linking it to Zero (any new megaman game would likely be good), or revitalizing their Breath of Fire franchise proper (not the mobile abomination that was 6, or the weird changes we got in 5).
etc.
- Sony decided to revive Wild Arms.
- Someone competent revived Heroes of Might and Magic.
etc.

All the above also assuming the companies got it right, instead of doing weird experiments or pandering to western insanity.
God, I miss good turn-based RPGs.

It's hard to get excited for new IPs though, since we can only hope it's a good game.

I know Nintendo won't say a thing here, so no new Mario things to expect, which would also make me very happy, since those are consistently good games.

At the moment, I'm more concerned about the huge backlog I've got than new games TBH.
Here's hoping the new Dynasty Warriors is fun.

Have you seen the trailer for HoMM: Olden Era? Seems like it has a lot of potential.
It's hard to trust Ubisoft after 5-7, but it does look like a huge homage to HoMM3 (the best).

The main issues regarding the new games are the completely new Lore and the plethora of bugs.

If the games were stable, they'd be at least good.

Don't tempt me, I've had gamerhood existential crises before. When I started playing games as a job and almost as a job, it definitely lost some of its appeal. The lesson is to always play the stuff you enjoy, not the stuff you feel obligated to enjoy. Video games will always be a simple, easy way to unwind and disconnect for a bit, even if they don't have the same appeal as your younger days.

TL;DR: Once a gamer(tm), always a gamer(tm).

I'm so glad I watched the show before coming here this time. It was pretty enjoyable and I didn't really have any major issues with the winners. I'm not sure Astro Bot would've been my choice but I certainly don't mind as it deserves a lot of praise. I just finished Rebirth this week and have Metaphor ready to go next, so I'll reserve judgement until after that.

Good news is that Ubisoft is only publishing, developers are relatively unknown but they did make Iratus, which is a rather good Darkest Dungeon-type game.

And the return to the original Universe is another huge plus.
I certainly hope it will be good, but expectations aren't high.

Hell yes. Astrobot deserved that win. I literally bought a PS5 just for that game and it was worth.

For me personally, the Okami 2 announcement was the greatest highlight by far. So awesome that the series is finally getting a continuation after so long. Every other announcement was just sort of ehhhh to me. I'm a bit tired of Elden Ring at this point so it's hard for me to get excited about an spin-off being announced.

Awards seem fair enough except for the fact that Nine Sols received no nominations whatsover. It's the best game I played this year. Like, common!

As far as Megaman and BoF is concerned i think they are genuinely aware of the fact people want a new game and or BoF collection/remaster but business decisions keep getting in the way (go figure)
for Wild Arms there is a kickstarter for a "spiritual successor" to WA with most of the old devs back for it like Eiyuden

An OKAMI sequel!! my god yes!! Thank you Capcom and thank you Hideki Kamiya.
Now that there's a new Clovers studio perhaps that will open the floodgates to other sequels.. Maybe a Viewtiful Joe 3? who knows. I hope so :P
i would die happy if god hand got at least a rerelease, such a fun game

The fact that Astro bot won game of the year is testament to the corruption within the gaming industry! It's average at best and does nothing to elevate or innovate the genre in any way!
I can't take this award seriously and it's offensive to those game developers who slaved over far more technical and complex games. What a joke!

I agree. There's nothing too special about a family friendly platformer game similar to Mario, doesn't show anything too advanced or impressive compared to Wukong or Onimusha. People are mad because they're being lied to by the video game industry and the corruption it has surrounding it - from accusations of sexual harassment in the workplace to tokenism by making all black characters more inclusive compared to other races.

That's the thing though: nobody bats an eye when a Mario game wins GOTY. Sony has been trying a long time to produce a 3D platformer on par with Mario 64, let alone one on par with Sunshine or Galaxy, and I'd say Astro Bot does at least meet that standard. Has great music and sound design, speedrun-friendly levels and abilities, and it's one of the few games that utilizes PS5 haptics very well. It's not the most innovative game in the world, but nor does it have any real design flaws to speak of.

Again, my preference would've been SOTE or Metaphor to win it, but the choice doesn't hurt my feelings. It's surprising mostly because Astro Bot has only sold about two million copies so far. Metaphor already won Gamespot's GOTY, and there will be plenty of other publications giving out GOTY awards too.

DQ12 is in dev limbo/hell, here's hoping it gets out, and I'd rather have Builders 3 TBH.

I want a good "Tales of" with couch Coop back, or a port we didn't get, preferably Rebirth, OR a Phantasia remake based on the X Edition. Symphonia needs a 60fps version bad. Graces F remake is definitely something to look forward to, but nothing new came from this GOTY.

Capcom should just sell those IPs at this point in time.

I don't really like the kickstarter "Wild Arms" (Armed Fantasia) in a conceptual level either, mainly because of how they portrayed the female main character.

The little tidbits of the OST are as great as expected from Naruke/Uematsu though.

That "double kickstarter" idea was also particularly stupid.
I do not want to back Penny Blood. I hated the Shadow Hearts games with a passion, and I do not want to fund something I hate to get something I might like.

Doubly so now that Penny Blood looks like it's dead, and the bad rap might inevitably spill over Armed Fantasia.

I like videogames I just don't think a game whose only merit is being Super Mario Oddisey for the PS5 and be full of collectables should have won best game of the year.

Astro Bot clone of the year.

Just like many of sunny games lately.

And this resumes the crap game clone-awards of the year -for them ofc-.

What a shitty year that a Mario clone collectaton actually won.

Like the game is okay but half the time it feels like Super Mario Odyssey and the other half you are gushing at all the references.
Oh hot damn, you just sold the game to me. I'm going to go get it now!

This thread has shown me that there's some real dumbasses on this site.
The award show is not rigged because your opinion doesn't match the result. Grow up.
