The Culling is a Battle Royale game, which released in October of 2017 (after being in early access since Feb 2016), which focused on 16-player online matches where you have to scavenge for items and weapons to survive and win. It received mixed reviews during its launch window on Steam, and was considered a slight success. It then, became a surprise, when developer Xaviant Games announced The Culling 2 suddenly, in July 2018, and released it shortly after. Reviews for the game were scathing, and the few fans of Culling 1 were furious at the sudden drop for a sequel. After a week of the game being available, it was announced that the game would be pulled shortly from all digital storefronts. The Director of Operations for Xaviant also uploaded an apology video, explaining his next plans for the company.

As for The Culling 1, once the sequel gets pulled, it'll go free-to-play, and will be going back into development. They plan to modify the game to how it was originally on launch, and being involved with the players to supposedly create a game that everyone will enjoy, while gaining their userbase's trust back.

If you purchased The Culling 2 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or PC, you can request a refund relatively soon, once the game gets pulled.

Responsible action on the dev's part.

I doubt this game will gain any traction, but still what I would like to see from devs.

Yeah, the transparency and genuine response from the devs is commendable. They're owning up to their mistakes. They probably won't see it become a major hit, but f2p might help it a bit.

Cr1TiKaL made an excellent video about this topic, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. The game effectively became unplayable since after a short while there was only one active player, making it impossible to start a proper match. It's hilarious that one of the games that started the whole Battle Royale trend bombed so badly.

wow I respect this response seems like a very honest studio. sometimes, in fact mostly artists are not great at selling and marketing stuff which I feel is where this mistake came from. I honestly feel a little sorry fro them. Marketing and selling is very hard to get right, even with the necessary skills but without any this kind of thing happens.
I have never heard of this studio or this game but I will be keeping an eye on them.

If just those "big" game brands would do this... ¬_¬

Many junk games are released every week on digital platforms.

I've actually stopped buying BIG BRAND games.

I have Quite a strict code on which devs I buy from and massively avoid the big corporate game devs (no names mentioned)
And I particularly avoid the Studios which have military contracts.

My Main go to Devs are 'Studio Japan', 'Insomniac', 'Santa Monica', 'Naughty Dog' and any other Devs that don't force us to Grind or Pay to win or release unnecessary DLC's like a magic stick or a Special Sticker for your virtual car.

Fans have been demanding the game to go back to day 1 balancing for so long. Did we really need a poor attempt at a sequel for them to realize that they had to go back?

lol what even is this hot garbage. Who makes a sequel to a game they released a year prior? Just update the main game you stupid greedy monkeys. I dunno why it took a massive failure and scandal to teach them that.

That must have hurt real bad. It was the result of strange marketing but at least it will be a learning experience.

It was so bad that on launch day, the first game had thousands of players, but the new game didn't even have enough people playing to run a match. Much of this was also because the second game was very much "just another brainless BR". The melee system, the class system, everything that made the first game stand out and be different was completely gone in the second game.

how about just don't buy it if you're so butthurt by it coming out too "soon"(TM) instead of acting like entitled babies (not you personally, modern "gamers" in general)

My guess would be the instant gratification one gets from being entitled on the internet.
If someone where to NOT purchase a game for some reason, that won't give you the same "fix" as crying to the public, hoping for some sympathy.

Nobody is going to pat you on the back for silently, NOT buying a game. Cry out loud, you might get some attention.

I'm saddened by "adults under 40" (the new, less offensive term for millennial's).
