'The Blood of Dawnwalker', a dark fantasy RPG from 'The Witcher 3' director, gets its first trailer

The Blood of Dawnwalker is the first title from Rebel Wolves, a new studio that includes CD Projekt Red veterans. The team has shared a first look at their single-player open-world dark fantasy action-RPG via a trailer. It includes a cinematic and some gameplay footage of the game which is being developed on Unreal Engine 5. A full gameplay reveal is planned for this summer.

You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, forever treading the line between the world of day and the realm of night. Use your skills and combine vampiric strength with human resolve as you take on a quest to save the ones you love. Face your foes – be they human, monster, or the ticking clock itself. But remember – the real evil may bask in the sun's light, and the most loyal of allies could lurk under the cover of night.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X|S.

That trailer looks surprisingly interesting. There is definitive a TW3 signature, even when it comes to music. Seems like the "good" CDPR veterans are working on this game.

If we're looking at it that way, CDPR had very few of the original original people that created the essence of what video game Witcher is - and still the foundation for Witcher 3 - by the end of development of what became the actual Witcher 1 that got released. This isn't a tiny indie studio, people are far more replaceable that anyone should feel comfortable acknowledging.

They really should reconsider this title, though. "The Blood of Dawnwalker" is so generic, forgettable, clunky (and most likely not something a native speaker would've came up with) it probably will actively hurt this game.

So far I am liking this game. I trust cdpr as they care about quality rather than what most game companies deliver these days.

As someone who played it, my personal opinion is that The Witcher 1 was a glorified Neverwinter Nights mod. The core ideas were there, but wow... the execution was tricky to say the least. I'd consider core CDPR whoever was around for The Witcher 2, which honestly has barely anything to do with the first game in relation to code and gameplay.

I agree with the title part. I wouldn't say the title is too generic, but rather too long/complicated, especially for a non-native speaker. I'd say even just "Dawnwalker" would be a better title.

Aurora was the starting point, after all, even though they had to essentially rebuild the whole thing to make their game. Crucially, Aurora was the only real possibility within CDPR's laughable budget, and even that was due to them knowing people at Bioware personally, and having a good working relationship going back to CDP's publishing days. Personally, I value the general feel of Witcher 1 more than the gameplay or even the writing. It's a bit on the grungy side, closer to the stories and novels. They never got it the same way again.

There's also the local perspective, i.e. whatever else it may be, Witcher 1 was a colossal leap for Polish gamedev. It changed that entire landscape singlehandedly.
