    best NDS flashcard that works on all firmware to date is the DStwo, but its pretty expensive, if you are looking for a cheap alternative, the R4i gold from the r4ids.cn wesite is probably the cheapest alternative that also works up to 8.1, but be warned there has been several revision so make sure you only buy the latest revision
    (do not buy the gold deluxe that is limited to 4.x consoles for the red card so you would be wasting your money)

    but to clarify the only cards for anything over 4.x will only play original NDS games, not 3DS games

    Just check r4i gold rts released by www.r4ids.cn, which can support 3DS 8.1.0-19.
    You can check the website for more information.

    if you don't have much budget ,you can choose the R4i Gold 3DS, it is one of the most popular r4i cards for all version 3DS, and only around US$15.00;
    if you need a better card, supercard dstwo is the best choice

    Forget r4 get dstwo it will basically always work on any firmware there's even a chance it works on the new 3ds (of all the flashcarts it has the best chance not saying it will work!!)

    The downside to the dstwo is that it eats the battery very quickly in sleep mode unless you eject it from the 3ds. Would love it if they could fix that in an update.

    they can't because it uses its own processor or whatever so thats why it drains battery, but that is also the reason it's able to work on so many firmwares(don't quote me on that). Its hard to block because it emulates the ds hardware or something like that.

    They're right. The DSTwo is simply the best there is. It's worth way more than the $35 you give for it.
