yeah I also tried taking a look at the loader but I could not determine the type of file it was. It makes sense to be a compressed file though. Perhaps its some form of the Huffman compression algorithm.

i am guessing it is a hardware check. probably checks the g6 motherboard for a serial number. You can mess with teh serial number in the utility program but i had no luck getting english working.

I am under the impression, that both firmwares have both languages in them. I know that makes no sense, but they file sizes are exactly the same and the md5 hash's match up. Basically saying that the files are identical.

I just know that this will all get sorted out. after all, if the only reason for the difference is money then I am sure smart folks like you will figure out a "fix" or we will just deal with the language difference. I for one have oredered a Chinese one because of threads like this.

I don't think there is anything at the hardware level preventing the software to be in english, proof of this is that v4.0beta has both english and chinese languages, obviously the problem here is in the source code.
I know some to some people, like you iMad, this must seem pretty funny; but IMHO the possibilites that could open, by having external programmers hacking and reverse engineering the loader are far greater than the mere "english in chinese G6s" dilema. They could be much more ambitious and try to completely overhaul the loader. Say for example that more than 2 langs could be supported (spanish, french, japanese etc... ), complete skinning of every graphical aspect in the GUI, the embedding of the player features into the main program (everthing loads from one place; text, music, vids and games), a transparent transition between NDS and GBA loaders so that the differences between the two are minimal and on along this same line the improvement of loading GBA roms from the NDS loader.

and removing that awful GBA splash screen would be nice
