    Hi ppl,
I wanted to ask if it's possible to change the text in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I would really like to change things like "Letzte Station" (Last Station) in german to "Final Destination" like it was called in Melee too.
The stage names for example seem be be stored as images (stage selection) as well as normal text (sound test).

i doubt you can edit something that is on the game disk, and if you can, the disk isn't rewritable.

Why did I wait so long for the european version then? lol
I don't want the whole text to be english, just the parts I don't like.

Yup, should be possible, they're stored as images. Just replace the German images with the English ones and the German text with the English text.

    For images:
The files are in BRRES format, but these files don't only hold images. Thay have 3D models, animations, textures, etc...
Once unpacked, you'll get some folders(depending on which BRRES file there will be more or less folders). TPL images are normaly in the Texture folder, and are converted to TGA or PNG using a TPL converter.
The problem is to repack the BRRES, because the actual unpacker doesn't do it.

    Download unpacker: http://heinermann.kakkoister.com/SSBExtract_1.0.zip || Heinermann's Hacking Resource

    Example: ROOT/menu/selmap/Selmap_en.brres

    For text:
Every file with the extension *.msbin is a text file that you can edit in any HEX Editor. Just be carefull to not write more that there already is, and just padd with spaces to fill missing space.
    Example: ROOT/menu/msg/item_name_en.msbin

Examples taken from the NTSC-U Game. I hope it helped. I tried to tranlsate the Japanese game when it was released, so I investigaed all this some long time ago [IMG]

@jayparadox: Wow, thx for that explanation.
    1. How does extracting of brres files help me if it's not possible to put the files back?
    2. there is no /menu/selmap/ on the PAL ISO and I couldn't find the Selmap_xx.brres file anywhere else...
    3. Often there is only a "snd_title_en.msbin", what about the other languages? There is no "snd_title_de.msbin".
    4. What's the difference between /menu/msg/ and /menu/controller/msg/? There are the same files.
    5. Is it possible to mux and demux thp files? It's not that important for me, but it would be nice to have the Sonic and Snake movies with english video, but japanese audio.

I hope you can answer the many questions, heh.

OK, I'll wait till you got it then.

THPs aren't really different from MJPEG + PCM from what I heard so it shouldn't be that difficult.
