You may have thought Tetris Party on WiiWare had exhausted all variants on the classic puzzler, but you'd be wrong. Very wrong.

Hudson Soft, Tetris Online and Majesco have announced today that they've found even more kitchen sinks to throw into the mix for the retail release that is Tetris Party Deluxe for Wii and DS. Six new modes, including something called Bombliss and VS. Sprint, have meandered their way in alongside four-player local and online multiplayer.

Balance Board support is still in, with newfangled support for the Wii Wheel and Wii Speak included. Presumably the latter is for swearing at talking to your friends in heated online matches, but if it allows for yelling "twist!" and "drop!" at the TV to play then color us pleased.

Tetris Party Deluxe is set to hit North America this June, with European launch details still hazy. The full press release is below.

Tetris® Party Deluxe" Announced for Wii? and Nintendo DS?
Strategic Partnership Paves the Way for the Popular Puzzle Game to Hit Retail Shelves This June

HONOLULU, HI, Feb 17, 2010 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- Tetris Online, Inc. (www.tetrisonline.com) today announced the upcoming release of "Tetris® Party Deluxe" for both Wii? and Nintendo DS?, set to hit retail shelves in North America this June.

To support the launch and distribution of two exciting new Tetris games for Wii? and Nintendo DS?, Tetris Online has formed a strategic partnership with Majesco Entertainment Company, an innovative provider of video games for the mass market.

Developed by Hudson Soft, "Tetris Party Deluxe" builds on the previously released "Tetris Party" for WiiWare? by adding new modes and features to enrich the overall game play experience for both Wii and Nintendo DS. "Tetris Party Deluxe" features:

-Six new game modes including the explosive Bombliss? and VS. Sprint that enables up to four players to compete for the first 40 line completion.
-Four new enhanced modes of play including an Edit Mode within Shadow that lets players create their own shadow puzzles to play.
-Online battles over Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, and local multiplayer fun for groups of friends and family.
-New ways to play like never before! On Wii, use the Wii Balance Board?, Wii Wheel?, Wii Speak? or your own personal Mii? to customize the game experience!

"After seeing how well 'Tetris Party' was received on WiiWare, we immediately began working with Hudson Soft to develop an even more impressive version of the game intended to reach larger audiences at retail for both Wii and Nintendo DS," said Minoru Arakawa, president and chief executive officer of Tetris Online, Inc.

The Tetris brand is stronger than ever before, and we're thrilled to be working with world-class partners such as Majesco and Hudson to help deliver the best Tetris experience possible to fans this summer."

The Tetris game is one of the world's most popular casual computer games and has been scientifically shown to change our brains -- another great reason to look forward to the June release of "Tetris Party Deluxe!"

Details for a European release of "Tetris Party Deluxe" are forthcoming.

Tetris Party is like my favorite WiiWare game, so I can see loving this.

EDIT: It's coming to retail, which is good since I have no more space on my Wii to play WiiWare/VC games and I don't have a DSi to download it. Very stoked.

The last DS retail release I pretty much got board of the other variations and just played straight up original Tetris so I'm not all that interested in this, it suits the DS better as home console Tetris never played as well for me.

VS Sprint sounds awesome, assuming it's the same thing as the 5P Sprint on Tetris Friends. I never played Tetris Party, but I'm hoping the WiFi allows for a matchmaking/scoreboard system similar to the way Tetris Friends does it.

I hope the controls will be the same as tetris ds. I'd hate having a hard drop that would let you move for a split second after it hit the ground.

I wonder if Bombliss would be the same as the original one or as sparkliss (which looks very much like it). I liked both versions, so it'll be good for me either way.

the problem with variations of the older versions of tht game is that what is new is not necessarily bcz of the game name but includes the gameplay eg. FFX-2 thought they would change the from the previous one which had a good name (fame)... it didnt go as well bcz sometimes original is original hence a totally new idea is needed hence FF11 and FF12

yeah the 1st wii Tetris Party was awful

Move with D-Pad, hard drop, fast drop, what's "awful" about it? Maybe the funky control schemes sucked, but that's because they were weird and meant for just fun. I played that game to life and death and it was fine.

Anyway, he's talking about Tetris DS, not Tetris Party.

I loved the first Wii Tetris Party, except if I played it longer then a few minutes, my eyes would start to hurt because the graphics/blocks were so small and unclear.
So annoying, I don't have this with any other Wii games, maybe my TV was just to small, but it really ruined the game for me.
Hopefully they make it bigger in this version, then I'm gonna play this to death!

Fock that, Tetris Party was the only game that made my eyes hurt, no worries

It was the game/my small TV, nothing else.

I guess Tetris Party's controls were a bit mushy (did I really just say that?) compared to the Tetris DS' snappy performance. But that's probably because the DS' control pad is pretty much the worst one I've ever experienced. If I happened to press the Left or Right buttons with my thumb slightly off-center it'd sometimes think I pressed the Up button, ruining my game with a big, ugly, misplaced Hard Drop.

(God... I never expected I'd be whiny enough to complain about Tetris' control scheme.)

Anyway, I really don't see why they'd have to make the game multi-platform. The effort is obviously all going into the DS version, judging by all the lame new modes they're adding. And besides, we've already got a perfectly good DS Tetris outing, and it's got a kick-butt Nintendo theme to it. Why make another one with a horribly generic design?
