Tencent has acquired Sumo Group, developers behind Sonic All-Stars Racing, Sackboy, and more

Tencent has bought up another video game company to add to its massive portfolio, with its recent acquisition of British studio Sumo Group. The brand is the parent company of Sumo Digitial, responsible for creating popular titles such as Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed, LittleBigPlanet 3, Snake Pass, and Hood: Outlaws & Legends. Tencent paid a whopping $1.27 billion dollars to buy up Sumo Group, while previously having an 8.75% stake in the company's stakes.

Tencent intends to bring its expertise and resources to accelerate the growth of Sumo both in the UK and abroad, supporting Sumo in the market for top-notch creative talent, and the UK as a hub for game innovation. We believe the proposed transaction benefits all stakeholders, delivers compelling value for Sumo shareholders, while enhancing the Sumo business for the future.

Yes, the only people it won't benefit are the actual gamers. SMH.
Their games are actually pretty fair.
I've played a few tencent games and they aren't nearly as greedy as the typical IAP games.

Wait, where are all the comments about the ultra plausible theories stating that China is spying the first world kids through video games?

Sonic All Stars Racing spying is a huge military advantage for China, you know...

I got all their games through humble bundle, not big deal tho, beside u won't lose anything if their future games are not up to expectation, you don't have to BUY IT .

Who's heard of this company?
Not me

Imagine if Google, Disney and EA were all the same company, and was run by the Chinese government with no regulations to impede growth. They own like 5-15% of most major western companies (hence 8.75% of Sumo, pre-aquisition) and subtly censor anything anti-China while also gaining the economic benefits of owning a ton of stock during a market boom.

One thing I can say is that their stuff tends to be pretty good. They do put effort into it. For decades, the USA dominated the world through economics and media. Despite a number of bad international policy decisions, the world generally likes the USA because of its movies, music, games, and other enjoyable media. China took notes.
