The judge has issued the restraining order against geohot and the other defendants. The judge has also ruled that the sony has enough reason to hold the case at San Francisco.

    I call bribery

Theres no grounds to hold it in San Francisco
The restraining order I can imagine as a precaution but it should be in geohot's area, not Sony's

Yup. I'm thinking that I will be boycotting the NGP and PS3 by not buying them new. Seriously, GH doesn't even promote piracy. This entire case is bullshit.

i read through the thing and I'm througly upset. It talks about how Geohot made it possible to copy PS3 systems and copyrighted content. That's bullshit. All he did was enable homebrew.

Oh, and they're confiscating his computer and all his USB sticks that may hold the keys.

Yeah the TRO is based entirely on BS, the only reason this got through is because the judge is clueless.

I really don't understand why people are calling Sony. GeoHot reverse engineered the PS3 which clearly Sony doesn't want people to do, so they're going for him. Sure, he doesn't publicly promote piracy, but so what? It has led to piracy, that's the deal.

No I havent studied law but I know enough

The reason why they shouldnt do it in SF is mainly because they are sueing Hotz for actions he did in Jersey thus falling under Jersey jurisdiction.
Its the same as Sony trying to take it to court in Korea, because they are based there, its just nor logical.

Give me one good reason why it should be held in SF? Sony HQ is in Korea only Sony America is in SF.
Hotz screwed of Sony in general and not Sony America
Hotz did it at HIS home, not in SF

Like I said, no grounds [IMG]

I mean, I agree the case is bullshit but odds are Sony won this one because they're able to pour ungodly amounts of money into legal stuff and Hotz can't. So if I get a bagillion of the top lawyers together, I'm pretty sure they could even get Charles Manson to go free.

I don't think Hotz deserves it but it's Sony's last stab at trying to protect they're already broken-open system. Really, I think this should just throw in the towel on this one and say "Hey, we still lasted the longest" and try some new antipiracy methods for both the PS3 now (ones that won't involve fucking up your system) and now towards the new NGP.

    EDIT: Typo.

Im going to sue Heckler and Koch!
They made guns, something alot of people didnt want them to do.
They dont condone people murdering other people with their guns but its still their guns used! People got shot using their guns, thats the deal

Dont blame geohotz for piracy. Blame the pirates for piracy

Guns and piracy are 2 completely different things, you can't really compare them. And what are guns primarily used for anyway? Killing people or hunting with or security, some might say.

I'm not blaming GeoHot for piracy anyway, I said that this exploit has led to piracy. Even though many people believe that GeoHot wasn't the main pioneer in the exploits anyway, that's no reason for Sony not to go for someone who has circumvented their security. If you were a big corporation and your system has been compromised, then you wouldn't be best pleased and you would target the main culprits.

They are just trying to save face. Their developers I bet are wondering if the PS3 is a good investment or not. All the other consoles have been hacked, the only one that is not easily hacked is the 360.

    While you're at it...

Anyway, I do question if the judge is familiar with exactly what is going on; I get the feeling it could still go either way.
