Hacking Temperamental DVD-ROM Drives what are my options?

Well this is a tale of two Coronas one issue namely failed DVD-ROM drives. Paid way too much for these just to have M$ ask for more to repair...
What are the best options to resurrect one of the below and hopefully get away from blasted DVD-ROM Drives.

Xbox 360 Slim 250GB Corona, Model 1439, MFR 2011-11-01, Dash 2.0.17511.0
Xbox 360 Slim 250GB Corona, Model 1439, MFR 2012-08-11, Dash 2.0.17502.0

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like if I want to keep the console but move away from temperamental drives my only option is the Xk3y-R. or are there other options out there?

Replacing the drive is one or getting it RGH'd.
You'll lose LIve access tho.

Not bothered with XBL and already had one of the drives replaced but ended up spending way too much with shipping. Looking to get away from drives all together.

Looks like I have a v3 corona so the following should be all I need.

- Xecuter CR4 XL CoolRunner
- J-R Programmer v2
- TX227 Corona Postfix Adapter v2

Yep.
The CR4XL is a more expensive chip (idk if TX has overcome the faulty batch, want to believe they did) but an Ace 360 V3 also does a magnificent job.
