I...don't think that I am happy about this...if it is true and gets released. And I don't think that TX are lying. I don't hate them, I don't like them, I just think that hacking the latest Switch revisions / Models is not "fair" against Nintendo.

Look, we all know that while Homebrew is very cool piracy is not so cool. And we all know that homebrew leads to piracy.

From the view of a consumer Nintendo fixed nearly all the major flaws they had with their last few consoles:
    - No region locking
    - Good, quality games and a very stable 3rd party / indie support
    - Improved Shop/Account System (yay for beeing able to just buy from the JP eShop)

Sure, they fucked up the (paid) Online system, and you can argue that the NES / SNES App aproach, and drip feeding us with games for them, sucks. But the Switch is so much better than the Wii / WiiU in every other regard.

My main reason for hacking consoles is, most of the time, to remove the region lock (i need my japanese shmups / rythm games!).
We have more than enough "vulnerable" Switches that can not be patched. We don't need hacked Mariko units, and we especially don't need hacked Switch Lite units.
At least for now - maybe wait for a year or something like that and then release the hack/exploit?

I am very active in the Bemani hacking/release community - and there is an unspoken rule that we only release game data when the "old" game is at least one year old so that Konami can still make a winning. I would be happy to see a stance like that in the console hacking community. I know this will never happen and I know that this is a very unpopular stance, I just wanted to give my thoughts about the current situation.

No offense, but what stops TX, OP and Gbatemp to share the proof, right now?

Where did I say that he is lying? Confirmation is not evidence. Costello never mentioned anything about evidence.

The biggest problem (at least for non-developed countries) still remains, and it's Nintendo's complete neglect for regional pricing - for example, here in Russia games on Switch are still absurdly expensive both on their own right (at times approaching 1/4 of an average monthly paycheck) and compared to other platforms (where you can often get the same games on PC/PS4 for 20% the price). I usually avoid piracy and resort to grey markets and re-sellers, but pricing is still a major obstacle and dominant reason for people downloading NSPs instead; completely avoidable at that too, as seen by success PSN and Steam have with their sales when slashing their prices in poorer regions.

Now I will finally be able to return my Switch to Nintendo without worrying about getting a patched Switch in return

Around 4500-4750 RUB, with current price for BOTW being 5250 RUB due to tax increase. For comparison, average monthly wage of non-Moscow/St.Petersburg citizen is 20000-25000 RUB. Many PC/PS4 games cost 500-1000 RUB, 2000-2500 for AAA titles.

He wouldn’t ruin his sites reputation by allowing this to continue if he wasn’t sure. He knows but is probably not at liberty to disclose any more information for the time being.

Try using some logic instead of immediately doubting everything just cause Sciresm said to.

Fair point. When I went to school and only had 25€ every month I also pirated every game that I wanted to play (games in Germany are usually 60€ for AAA games). I would have thought that Nintendo does regional pricing, guess I was wrong. Still, is it too much to ask to wait for ~1 year before you can pirate games on your console? Nintendo also has to make a profit after all...

Ok. Thats a fucking low pay, but about the same price as everywhere else with vat (3827 + 3827 * 0.21 = 4631 rub for a 60 usd game with current conversion rates and without any other taxes). But I am not accounting for how old the games are, country specific taxes, store profits and so on. However, I doubt that ninty is going to do anything about it.

    Where is the proof again?

I am not saying that they couldn't accomplish it. All I am saying is that there is no bloody proof.

Welp, like majority of developing nations, Russia is "low wages, low prices" kind of place - living here isn't expensive in the slightest, but buying international products is a pain in the ass. That's where regional pricing comes into play - companies lowering prices of their digital products to attract audience and make them more available; which naturally comes at a cost, but still attracts enough people to rectify said cost ("more people with less money" beats "less people with more money"). Unlike Valve, Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo simply doesn't do that, hence their games cost so much more for Russian people - that directly contributes to low popularity of Nintendo products in Eastern Europe. Kinda like that =)

Yeah, I get your point too - it's just that there's certain pressure to play a highly popular game early. Even putting all the marketing and hype aside, there's still a massive userbase that will most likely spoil the coolest parts of the game by the time said year passes. The companies are partly to blame too, since marketing divisions are known to exploit FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) when presenting their products. When one doesn't have spare money to spend on expensive videogame, and gets bombarded by adverts and spoiler alerts on top of that, it's natural that they'll eventually cave in and just pirate the thing.
