"Team Fortress 2 Classic" sourcemod coming to Steam in 2025

Following Valve's surprising release to the public of the Source 1 SDK last week, it wouldn't be long until sourcemods based on the originally leaked Source 1 SDK started to appear officially on Steam, and it seems like 2025 will be the year for those sourcemods to appear through official means.

Today, Valve officially announced that the "Team Fortress 2 Classic" sourcemod will officially be releasing on Steam later in 2025, although with no specific date as of yet:

Team Fortress 2 Classic is a mod of Team Fortress 2 which aims to give the game its original flare and whistles from when it initially launched back in 2008-2009, reimagining the base Team Fortress 2 and, additionally, implementing a lot of quality of life improvements, as well as introducing and remaking previously scrapped content, and even new things like new gamemods, modding support, visual enhancements, and more.

With this, we can expect even more sourcemods based on Team Fortress 2, like the popular Open Fortress sourcemod, to slowly appear on Steam officially thanks to Valve making open source release of the Source 1 SDK.

I have played very little TF2 in my life, but I knew friends that played it religiously. I'd need a superfan to tell me how TF2 Classic's source would change the modding community.

I hear there are some issues in the vanilla TF2 that need to be fixed, but are not being addressed. (I think it's bots/aimbots that are the issue, but I'd need a fan to confirm that.)

Yeah really the big thing is just botting issues. Which is just a never ending battle for lots of games.

That's never really been an issue in private servers with active moderators or the option to vote-kick, though. Sucks that almost all other online games have moved away from private servers for that reason.

I don't really understand the bot problem. Just open the server browser and hop on a community server. They're really active, have custom gamemodes and maps, and they ban bots on sight. I really can't even remember the last time I saw a bot.

I never saw it myself either. But boy did I hear a LOT of complaints about it.
