Tales of the World - Narikiri Dungeon 2 translation patch v2.20 has been released.

The Translator's Cut (lol) represents features that aren't in the original game that may significantly impact the presentation or gameplay beyond simply localizing and typesetting the text.
By default, this is ENABLED for new games and loads of save data from the Japanese version or previous patch versions.
To DISABLE it, press L (Lame) at the title screen (for new games) or the Config submenu. To ENABLE it, press R (Rad) instead. Your preference will be saved.
The Translator's Cut features are listed below:

- Character rename (press START and then A at the main submenu)
- Targetted enemy info popup (must scan with Magic Lens or Inspect arte)
- Subtitles for voice lines
- Display of weighted stats per level for each entry in the Clothing Book
(HP/5 plus all the other stats)
- Debug menus (see below)

There are mostly-functional debug menus hidden within the main submenu, battle submenu, and dungeon exploration -- have fun with them if you figure out how to access them! (I don't suggest saving after using them unless you don't mind being a dirty cheater. ;D)

If you are for whatever reason using emulator savestates instead of proper save points/the Suspend feature, make sure to save or suspend properly and reload your game after upgrading patch versions, or else the Translator's Cut features may not function properly.

v2.20 -- More translated English text thanks to Mr. Peese: several skits, final
dungeon Tales hero conversations, etc.
Implemented a proportional menu font ("8x8 VWF"), along with many
related text presentation improvements.
Implemented the abilty to enable/disable Translator's Cut, a means for
the player to do so via button input, and the ability to save the
preference.
Translated the battle voice lines and implemented subtitles to display
the translations.
Exposed the dungeon exploration map debug menu.
Expanded the targeted enemy info popup with attack attribute/
resistance/weakness data.

v2.11 -- Text-related bugfixes as well as text presentation improvements.
- Fixed several text display issues involving encounters when trying
to open treasure chests, as well as in main story scenes.
- Other text adjustments.
- Added a drop shadow to the HUD in battle.
- Also performed some backend work to make fonts and dialog boxes more
easily moddable for enterprising individuals.

v2.10b-- Fixed string buffer overflow bug.

v2.10 -- More English text, thanks to the efforts of Mr. Peese, who has
contributed translation work to the project!

v2.00c-- Fixed a stupid bug that caused an issue when creating a new save.

v2.00b-- Whoops, save type nonsense causes issues, switched release format back
to IPS.

v2.00 -- An effort to relaunch the translation with some new tools and
techniques. Still very much a work in progress.
- A proportional dialogue font ("VWF") was implemented with
automatic, dynamic word wrapping and pagination.
- Implemented an additional quality-of-life feature not present in
the original game, in which enemy HP is visible to the player when
targeting, as long as that enemy type has been previously scanned
with a Magic Lens or the Scholar's Inspect arte.
- Exposed debug menus and allowed the player to rename their
characters.
- Some menu presentation improvements.
- Some retranslations and textual edits.

v1.42 -- A few graphical changes, a few translation/formatting flubs fixed
(thanks go to Karan Shadow for pointing a bunch of these out),
Skills changed to Artes, etc. etc. Nothing too major, unfortunately.

v1.41 -- A relatively minor update. A few names have changed, a few things
tweaked, and a bit more translated.

v1.40 -- The first release in a long while, roughly coinciding with ND2's
fifth birthday! Cyllya provided translation, while Carnivol is on
point with quality checking.

A quick list of what's new:
- Names finally changed to more closely reflect the naming
conventions present in the official English Tales game releases --
character names, item names, recipe names, monster names, skill
names, etc. etc.
- Some of the dialogue is finally translated! This includes the
introduction, a few parts towards the beginning, a few events
here and there, a bunch of text that should tell you where to
go and what to do and such, and the major plot events (the
story; believe it or not, the game has one :) ).
- A whole bunch of stuff, like menu text, was slightly redone and
hacked to make it prettier.
- As usual, anything else I might have forgotten.

v1.34 -- Bugfix patch. Apparently, the game doesn't like 18 character
/1.337 location names. This was causing the freezing bug. I cut
location names down to 17 characters, so hopefully the bug
should be fixed.

v1.33 -- Another patch! Stuff done:
-Retranslated costume list.
-Retranslated skill list. Passive skills now have complete
descriptions. Active skills' descriptions are still in
Japanese. Only a few skill names have changed.
-Monster book (zukan) completed.
-Strategy menu retranslated. It was needed badly.
-Location names retranslated (as in, the locations that appear
in the yellow box at the top inside dungeons).
-"Great Tree" changed to "Giant Tree" to be consistent with
the official translation of Tales of Symphonia.
-Retranslated character names. Not many changes.
-Random text translated/retranslated.
-NPC party members with 7-letter names should have their entire
name show up in the Skills menu. Still a bit misaligned, though.
Also added information about the supposed freeze bug when playing
the game on a flashcart. See the Known Bugs section of the Notes
section for more information.

v1.32 -- About to leave on vacation, so I thought I would release a patch.
-Retranslated item list and descriptions. All items should have
descriptions now, and a few item names were changed, most notably
the 'seki' element stones.
-A correction or two here and there, like finally getting around
to changing 'zu' to 'dzu' in 'idzuna otoshi'.
-Hopefully this version doesn't add any bugs. If it does, switch
to v1.31, since I will be unable to address the bugs for a while.

v1.31 -- Erm... E3 2004. That's why. Graphics compression editing continues.
New stuff:
-Menu graphics. The menu is now a step closer to full English.
-A few other graphical changes (such as the period in the small
font).
-Some more translation.

V1.30 -- This release is in celebration of... er... DeJap's Star Ocean patch
release! A mere two and a half months after the fact :)
Here is what was done during this busy/lazy period:

Started editing compressed graphics. The following is done:
-Title screen (not the TotW:ND2 logo yet... maybe never)
-Flashing blue alerts
-Things similar to the flashing blue alerts
-Town location names
-World map location names
Corrected some skill names.
Changed Regulus back to Eryante. Oops. (See Correction to v1.23)
Some other stuff I probably forgot.

V1.24 -- This release is in celebration of the release of Namco's Tales of
Phantasia remake/port for the GBA! New stuff:

Custom (Configuration) menu items fully translated! Yay!
Some other menu updates, like the formation menu.
Character Zukan completed!

V1.23 -- Whee, this patch release is in celebration of Namco's release of
Tales of the World: Summoner's Lineage (known as "SamoRine" for
short)! Here's what's new:

All the area subnames are done! Meaning, when you walk into an area
and a yellow box appears at the top of the screen, the text is in
english now, not japanese. If you see any japanese in these boxes
(I suspect that there might be one in the Hunter's Forest), please
email me.
The patched ROM should now work on a flashcart (thanks go to Meteo).
Somehow screwed up fire-element priest's class name. It was supposed
to be "kitoushi" in japanese, or "master of prayer". It's now called
"Meditator". Have a better name? E-mail away.
Revised the Bonus Ability names and the related status screen.
Other changes, such as some very slight dialogue additions (like the
hunter standing at the entrance to Hunter's Forest).

Translation note: Namco USA, for some reason, seems to have changed
"Eryante" to "Regulus". If you don't know or remember who this is,
he's an ancient, great warrior in Tales of Eternia (Destiny II US).
I decided to go with Namco and call him Regulus just for continuity,
just like how I called the nekonin (catperson) costume Katz (which
is also from Tales of Eternia).

CORRECTION: Actually, Regulus was Regulus in the Japanese version as
(03/17/04) well. **MILD SPOILER** Apparently, the dungeons and Tales
references in ND2 are only reflections, or alternate
dimension, versions of the originals. Thus, Eryante is
an alternate version of Regulus. **END SPOILER**

V1.22 -- Thanks to Ayln, we now have a bunch of the item descriptions done!
Added spacing to location names and corrected them. Take note that the
ice cavern is supposed to be called Ice Cavern and the final dungeon
with the Tales characters is supposed to be Dragon Maze.
Finished translated button configuration menu.
Changed a few skill names to cut off syllables instead of crushing the
name into the available space (eg, Yosorkbkushu -> Yosorakubaku)
NaitusaBell -> KnightSaber (D'oh... thanks, Cyllya)
FinalDungeon -> Ice Cavern (Thanks to someone on GameFAQs ND2 board)
Ice Cavern -> Dragon Maze (Ditto)
Dycroft -> Floating City [of the Undead] (name correction)
IllusionCastle -> Phantom Castle (due to lack of screen real estate)
FinalDungeon -> Dragon Maze (name correction)
WhiteLatex -> BeautyLotion (thanks to... I forgot, sorry)
BlossomBlade -> Chizakura (the name of Suzu's ninja sword)
MoneyGoblin -> Food Change (it made no sense and sounded odd)
Fundakul -> Fundakle (Why not? I think it's what was intended.)
Ada -> Ayda (argh, Ada just doesn't convey the
pronounciation)

V1.21 -- Mainly a bugfix patch:
-Fixed the "7-letter Tales cameo name" bug (not my fault, it was the
original programmer...)
-Fixed some pointers that caused some skills to be displayed
incorrectly in battle (Raijinken showed up as "n", for example).
-Translated Suspend/Continue menu and resulting black screen text.
-Corrected some names. Erin -> Elaine, Eida -> Ada (pronounced
aid - ah), and Guraido -> Glide.
-Added hyphens for "san" and "chan". Ex: Polpol-san.


V1.20 -- Basically, all names are expanded, thanks to pointers. Some more
menu work was done, plus some corrections. At least we don't have
to deal with "Stn" and "Mnt" anymore...

V1.00 -- First version. This patch barely deals with dialogue/descriptions.
The main goal was to translate all menu text, monster names, zukan
info, interfaces, etc. Some things from the introduction aren't done
yet. Due to space limitations both onscreen and off, some things were
abbreviated beyond recognition. Other things were likely translated
horribly. Sorry. This version is kinda sucky, but it should help the
gamer that can't read kana very well (like me).
