How are you meant to use the Synergy moves given throughout the game? I really don't get how to use them

btw I just beat Andre by the gate thing, where Leon gets that sword blahblah, how far till the game ends?
It's sooooo goood, I don't want it to lol

the characters have to bee within 3 squares and both have 3 fp
and the game has 25 chapters

ooooohhhh! I figured the 3 squares thing, since it tells you but didn't know about both needing 3fp.
